T. GREGORY CIGARETTE HOLDER Filed Nov, 8, 1924 Tamd regarg/ Patented Sept.. 2 9, 1925.
THOMAS GBEGRY,'F CLEVELAND, 01H10.
emanan-:rn Homann.
Application led November 8, 1924. Serial No, 748,771.
To all whom t may concern.' Be it known that I, THOMAS GREGORY, a
citizen of the 'United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigarette Holders, of which the following is a speciiication.
This invention 4relates to cigarette hold- ,ers
An object of the invention. is to provide a cigarette holdercf simple construed tion, having a ring portion adapted to be arranged on the finger of the user.
A further objectofthe invention is to' provide a cigarette holder having a pair of movable gripping jaws.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a cigarette holder which may be formed of a single piece of wire.
In the accompanying drawings, I have shown several embodiments of the inven-A tion. In this showing: r
Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of the invention, Figure 2 is a front elevation of another form of the invention,
Figure 3 is an endelevation of the form of the invention shown in Figure l,
Figure 4 is a perspective view of another form of the invention, and,
Figure 5 is a the holder in posltion on the hand of the user.
Referring to Figures 1 to 3 of the drawings, -the holder may be formed of a single piece of wire having two parallel end portions 1. The terminals ofthese end portions are formed in loops 2, and serve as grip ingjaws. As shown, see Fi re 3,) the jlws may be curved, as at(3, to titgalround the exterior of the cigarette. y Beyond the parallel portions, the two arms are twisted, as at 4, and the wire is then formed into a pair of'rings 5, which are normally arranged at an angle and spaced from each other at the side op(posite the point where thev join the arms ee Figure l'n Figpre 2 of the drawings, I have shown a older in which the ring portions are crimped or corrugated, as at 6.
In Figure 4 of the drawings, I have I shown .a holder in which the lower sides Iof the rings are attened, as at 7, to permit the holder to stand on a table or other sup- Port 'wardly to the dotted line rings .is
. rings 5 may then be rspective view showing shape, size,
In operation, the parts of the holder are normally in the position shown in Figure 3 of the drawings, and' to inserta cigarette, thelower sidesmf the .rings are moved inposition shown, Whiqh spreads the jaws 2, as in icated. A cigarette 8 may then be inserted 1n the jaws (see Figure 5) and when the pressure -on the released, the gripping jaws engage the opposite sides of the cigarette. The placed over the-Enger of the user, as indicated at 9. The rings serve as handles .to spread the gripping jaws, and the provision of a pair of rings further serves as a steadying means for the holder when in position on the finger. It a single ring were employed for this purpose, it vwould b e necessary for thel ring as when the pair of rings is employed and spaced from each other, only -a rough iitis necessary'.
It will be apparent that the device may be formed of precious metals and ornamented in any suitablemanner to produce an attractive holder.
It-is to'be understood that the forms of my invention herewith shown and described .are to be. taken as preferred examples of the same, and that various changes in the and arrangement of. parts may be resorted to without departing from the spiritof the invention or .thescope ofthe subjoined claims. l
' 1. In a device .of the' character a pair of gripping jaws adapted the opposite sides of a cigarette, and a pair of rings connected to said jaws, said rings being adapted to serve as handles to ermit opening of said' jaws and being rdescribed, to lengage of the user when the device is in use.
2. In 'a device Lof the character described,
a pair of gripping jaws adapted to enga the opposite sidesof a-cigarette, and a pair of ringsconnected to said jaws, said rings beingl adapted to serve ashandl'es to permit opening of said jaws and being further adapted to be arranged on the finger ofthe user when the device is in use, the' low-l er sidesof said rings beingprovided ywith flatten-ed portions.
3. In a device of the character described,
a cigarette holder formed of a singlepiece of1 wire, the ends of said wire being arranged to form a pair of parallel arms gri ping jaws formed on the outer ends o sai arms, the intermediate portion of said 5 wire being arranged to form a pair of rings,
said rings bein spaoed from .each other at the side opposite said arms whereby said gripping jaws may opened by `moving the spaced portion of said rings toward each other. n
In testlmony whereof, I aix my signa-l ture. l
THOMAS GREGORY
