Description
Sept. 22, 1925 H. E. GETCHELL mm TEE Filed May 1,, 1925 Applicetlon flied 1,
To all whom it may concern; Be it known that I, Hnnnnnr "E. n citizen of the Unitedfitctes, residing at ii oonsocket, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Goll Tee, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a golf tee for practice and playing. The principal on jcct oi the invention is to provide a simple,
durable, and inexpensive tee that is not himly to get lost in practice and that will not he almost necessarily thrown long (li tence every time the hall is hit.
Reference is to he heel to the ace-on 1; ing ilrs wings in which Fig. 1 is a side view showi l nee in position 1n the ground and l1 'xreon and also the driver in position ior .v'lng;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view through the center ol' the tee in position;
Fig. 3 is a side view of the tee illltl Fig. l is a. plan. I am aware of the fact. that Woorlen tees have been made with a concave top to r ceive the hell and set down into the ground t'or use in playing. These are open to the objections that every time the hell driven the tee is apt to he pulled up and cast it 3 long distance or else entirely destroyed.
lhis invention is designed; to secure the oilvantage of such too without these clitiicnl- -For this purpose the tee is formal of a piece of wood turned to a: conical form 35 to provide a spur 10 to he pressed into the ground and it is cut oil :it the top on. a line 11 to form an angle with the axis oi this conical spur. lhis top is hollowed out to form a cup 12.
In placing this in the ground it istorcecl in at such an angle as to leave the surface 11 horizontal us indicated in Figs. 1 and 2 with the spur projectingbackward in the direction from which the hell is to be driven.
N ow the ball 13 is placed in the cup which is small but large enough to retain the hell in positioin and it is driven by thodriver M: from the side indicated in Fig. i.
It will be observed that in cescflthe sstroke is made too low it Will not he opt totem" up the tee from the ground but will press it forward and ordinarily cannot drive it far out of its hole in the ground; In ordinary practice the tee Will not be disturbed in any f iifh m (thrill in me. tierleil in. ergzee.
lost or necessitate any .Sfltlflll for it. Tint on spur merle of conieel form so as to he pressed in easily and so not; to present eny weak point at which it i" likely to break mtwo. v
l have spoken of this tee as formed of on Wood which would he the nntnrel material for it, .ont if desired it may he "l7l(.i3(l. oil. hard rnhhcr, paper, or any ot ilesireil. materiel which niight be advantageous when made in very large quiintiticr nel It lilo not.

As an article oi. manufacture. a golf tee having a horizontal concave flat surface at the top to provide a support for the ball and having a spur projecting ClOViilfiVdi'tllY therefrom. in a backward direction.
2. As on article oi. .nniinctnre, a golf tee having a fat surilnce lit the top cnppeet out to provide a support for the hull and having it spur projecting Ci l\\"ll\'2il(il rhea from with its nxis at an angle to the pla nc the top surface. Q
As an article of mann'l'm-lnro, r. grill ice having nsurlnce lit the top cupped oiit to provide a support for the hull and having a spur of conical form projectirwj (lorrn t wardly therefrom in 'a backward tlireirtion to hold it in the ground it it is hit.
