APPARATUS FOR TREATING; THE SGALP.
Application filed December 11, 1922. Serial No. 608,090.
To ((77 whom it may concern lle it known that l, Aims lilnnnn, a citize of France, residino; at New York, in the c9111] try of New York and State of New York. have iiwented certain new and usctul lmprovcments in Apparatus tor llreating the Scalp. of which the following is a specilication.
This invention relates to an apparatus designed primarily for treating:' the scalp, althomrh it is to be understood that an ap paras-us in accordance with this invention can be employed tor any purposes wherein it is found applicable, and the invention has for its obje t to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, means for generating and dircctine heat rays asrainst the scalp for.
relaxin and opening): the pores whereby a mcdicant applied to the scalp prior to the relaxing and opening of the pores thereof will. penetrate to the roots of the hair for invigorating purposes.
A further object of the invention is to provide what may be teriii'ied a head gear for positioning): on the head and embodying; means for ,e enerating; and directing heat rays to the area of the head within said e ear for the purpose of opening the pores of the svalp, stimulation of the blood circulation, opening: sweat glands, destroying bacteria.v providing; for the ready removal ot dirt and crustaceous formations from the scalp, and further tor preparing the scalp for a scion. titic treatment for the development of the hairbulb, papilla, glands, etc.
Further objects of the invention are to provide an apparatus for the purpose set forth, which is extremely simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, compact, durable, cflicient and convenient in its use, readily assembled and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists ot the novel construction, combination and arrangement ot parts as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying: drawii'in's, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can. be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
ln the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts tliroufghout the several views- Figure 1 is a side elevation of an apparatus for treating the scalp in accordance with this invention.
l igrure 5.2 is a front elevation.
ilip ure 3 is a vertical sectional view.
.i-tn apparatus For treating the scalp, in accordance with this invention comprises a head ,az'ear consisting of an upper section 1 tor supportinp an electrical heat generating device.v and a lower section 2 for enclosing the need of a patient. he section 2 preferal extends into the former the bottom thereo't, but not necessarily so, and if desired the top of the lower section 2 can overlap the bottom oi the upper section 1. The sections 1 and 2 are secured together in any suitable manner, p2 'zrably by hold-fast devices in the form (it rivets 3.
The section 1., is dome-shaped in contour and is constructed of a highly polished inetal'lic material. The material from which the section 1 is formed, not only has its outer face, but its inner tare hi ghly polished. The inner face of the section 1, provides a reflecting); surface for directing heat rays, in the form of light, to the scalp for treating); the latter. The section 1, medially thereof, at its top, is termed with an opening; 5, and depending: from the inner taco ot. the section 1, as well as aligning with. the opening; 5, is a sleeve constituting: a socket tormin iiiein her 6, provided with internal threads 7. As shown, the member 6 is an integral part of the section 1. but if desired, it can be formed independently ot and secured in any suitable manner to said section 1.
Detachably mounted in the member 6, as well as being suspended thereby within the section 1, is an electric lamp 8, of the incau descent type and which is formed with a contact element 9, of any suitable arrangement. Extended into the member 6, at the top thereof, is a removable contact plug 10, formed with a knurled flange 11 for conveniently handling the plug 10, and the latter is associated with the element 9 for electrically connecting the lamp 8 with a source of electical enerev. not shown. Current 00111166. tions 12 in. iosed by a casing; 13, are carried by the plug; 10, and said connections 12 terminate in a coupling member 14 to provide for detachably securing); the current connections 11 with the electrical source.
The lower section 2 is constructedv of tibrous material, that is to say, a material other than meal, preferably cardboard, which possesses the characteristics to provide for the said lower section being inipervious to heat, moisture. and water. The section 2, is hollow and frusto-conical in contour and has its bottom edge 15 sloping or tapering downwardly from the treat to the rear of said section so as to provide for the section 2 properly lilting the head that is to say, so the section will inclose the back ot the head, as well as the front thereof, when the head gear is mounted on the head of the patient.
The lower section 2 supports the ipper section 1 and is substantially stilt to prevent collapsing thereof when supportin tion 1 The section 2 is capable of yicir dian'ietrically so as to conform to the sha e off the head of the patient when the'heac gez'ir is mounted in position.
When the head gear is mounted in operative position so as to inclose the head of the patient and the lamp 8 illun'iinated, the upper section 1 will direct the heat rays onto the scalp and the area of the latter ceulined within the lower section 2, will be heated and this application of heat will cause the scalp to relax and open the pores thereof, so that a incdicaut appiied to the s alp will penc trate to the roots of the hair and further the action derived from the application of the heat rays on the scalp will cause the st-i u'n lation of blood circulation, open the sweat glands, destroy bacteria, as well as provide for the convenient removal of dirtand crustaceous formations, and further prepare the scalp for a scientific treatment for the development of the hair bulbs, papilla, glands, etc. and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as disclosed and illustrated, yet it is to be understood that changes can be had in the details of con- 40 struction without departing from the scope of the invention as claimed.
W hat I claim is 1. An apparatus for treating the scalp con'iprising a body portion consisting oi a hollow dome-sha 'u-d upper metallic heat directing section, and a dianietri*allyyieldable lower trustoronical head enclosing section conformable to the shape of the head when mounted thereon and providing a sup port for said upper section, said lower section substantiall stir? to prevent the collapsing thereof when supporting said UPPQ." sectioinineans tor-connecting the upper PU?" tion of the lower section to the lower por tion of the upper s :tion, and an electrics! heat generating device arranged within said body portion.
2. Ali-apparatus for treating the scalp comprising a body portion consisting o hollow. donieshaped upper metallic lea n recting section, and a diametrically yield-- able lower trusto-conical head enclosing section formed of a non-metallic material conformable to the shape of the h mounted thereon, said lower sect s a support tor said upper sect in a o stantially still to prevent collapsing the 1 when in supporting position, means for per-- nianently connecting the upper portion of the lower-section to the lower portion ot' the upper section, and an electrical heat gen at-ing device arranged within said bod" por tion. i
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature hereto.
