EPPA H. RYON, or WAL'I'HAM, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR T CROMPTON & KNOWLES LOOM wonxsaor WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS, A CORPORATION OF MASSACHU- SETT-S.
Application filed April 19,
To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, ErrA H. RYoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Valtham, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Jacquard Indicator for Drop-Box Looms, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a drop box loom having a jacquard mechanism associated therewith and connected to indicate and control the movements of the drop boxes. Jacquard indicators have been heretofore known and used in which the indication by the jacquard was transmitted directly to the drop box controlling mechanism, and in which the parts were consequently entirely dependent for their time relation upon the movements of the jacquard lifter bars. It has been found in operation thatthis particular time relation is'not' well adapted to theoperative movements'of the drop! box mechanism and much difficulty has arisen on this account. I
It is the object of my present invention to provide a jacquard indicatorso' constructed that the indication from the jacquard will be transferred to the drop box mechanism by separately actuated devices which may be caused to operate in any desired time relation to the movements of the drop boxes. To the accomplishement of .thisyobject, I provide an actuatingmember connected to the 100m driving mechanism, and indicating' devices operated thereby but movable to operative or inoperative position by the jacquard mechanism.
My invention further relates to arrangements and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter described and more. particularly pointed out in the appended'claims.
A preferred form of my invention is shown in the drawings in which Fig. 1 is an end elevation of certainparts of a drop box loom embodying my improvements q Fig. 2 is a plan view of my improved indicator;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation thereof;
Fig. 4is a sectional plan view, taken along the line 4-4 in Fig.3; and
Fig.5 is a detail elevation showing certain parts in a different position.
Referring tothe' drawings, I have shown a 0 side'l drop b x litter rod 11 a JACQUARD INDICATOR FOR DROP-BOX LOOMS 1923. Serial No. 633,130.
of hell cranks 14 and 15 mounted on a fixed pivot 16. The bell cranks 14 and 15 are connected by links 17 to mutilated vibrator gears 18 mounted upon arms 19 pivoted at 20 to the loom side 10. A link ciated link 17 andbell crank 14 or 15;
A latch 190 (Fig. 1) [is provided for looking the vibrator lever 19 in raised or lowered position. This latch, is positively moved rearward to unlock the vibrator lever by a cam 191 fixed to rotate with the cylinder gear 25 and a sprin'g192 is. provided for yieldinglymoving the latch to locking position. The parts thus far described are or may be of the usual type and in themselves form no part of my present invention, which relates particularly to the mechanism provided for moving the indicating levers 22.
Each controlling device vor indicating lever 22 is positioned by a lug or projection 28 on the upwardly extending arm of a three-armed rocking lever or positioning member 29 loosely mounted on a fixed ivot 30. The lug or projection 28 on the ever 29 engages a cam surface of the lever 22 and movement of the lever 29 from one to the other of the two positions indicated in Fig. '3 causes the, corresponding indicating lever 22 to be raised or lowered. The lever 22 has such engagement with the rocking lever 29 that the lever is held yieldingly in one or the other of its two extreme positions.
The two horizontally disposed arms of each rocking lever 29 are provided with upwardly extending connections or indicating fingers 31, each provided with a hook-like projection 32. The upper ends of the fingers 31 are received in recesses 33 formed in the sides of sliding bars or pattern controlled members 34. 7 One end of each bar 34 is provided-with a straight slot 35 through which extends a fixed Stud 36, The other 21 connects the free end of each arm 19 end of each bar 34 has a curved or cam slot 37 through which a stud 38 extends.
This upward-movement of the actuator 43 and projection 4C8, however, need have no particular time relation to the time of movementof the bar 34 but should be in timed relation to the movement of the cam'191 which releases thevibrator levers 19.- This movementofl the actuator 13'may be at any time subsequent to the operation of the'jacquard and the movement of the bar 34. hen one of the fingers 31 is thus raised, it will-reverse the position of its rocking lever 29-, raising. or lowering the corresponding indicating lever- 22 and calling a change-in the position ofthe drop b'oxes;
I'ha-ve'thusprovided a very simple and reliablemechanism which avoids the necessity of moving the indicating'levers 22 in a definite and restricted time relation to the move ments of the lifter bars of the jacquard and the indicating levers are free for movement in any desired relation to the operation of the drop box mechanism.
Having thus described my invention and the advantages thereof, I do not wish to be limited to the details herein disclosed otherwise than as set forth in the claims, but what I claim is:
