FUEL-FEEDING APPARATUS.
Application filed March 13, 1924, Serial No. 698,848.
To MZZ /201. it mugs; cancer it known that l, Enns'r SIMON, a citizen of Germany, residing at l Verden-on-thel r, in the State of lrussie, Germany, 'ivented certain new and useful lifeprovel in F i lippare s end i do hereby d following to he a full clear, and erect description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make use the some. .-y invention relates to improvements in fireplaces for loose and highly inflannnehle fuel hi 2 dust and Wood shavings. T 2e in'iprovements are, first,
Li 1... 1. ie GiJieCLb ensure a operation of fireplaces for rina indicate and, second, to
e 1e eii iciency or. e combustion. 'li cts in view my invention 'eed up fuel of different characto Wood shavings and cool dust separate passages to the fireplace a passage discharging into the seine, heme 3rovided for maintaining the m." i. 11 h '1 pa 1. o Oi the volumes Ol t e sen. ones or. constant even when changing, the coullOll of fuel. 1 have found that by Wood shavings and a suitable we" 1 y i 1. 1L1, i 1. .it or coal oust LO out} hrepiace the c of the conihi iron is increased, and the coal dust which OlllQlWlSG of minor 0 j u u ra e, is burnt in an econon'ucul Way. in the Plziftl-CQ of the in ention provide 9. rotary hucliet wheel 111 thfuel supply,
which wheel has the iunctions, first, to regulate the flow of the fuel and, second, to provide a means the main part of the supply as against tie fireplace, and to prerent transmission of the flame from the fireplace to the main part of the supply.
F or the purpose of plaining the inven tion two efitlfiplefi einhodying th 821E116 have been shown in the e.ccompanying drawings in which the scum let ore of reference have been i'zscd in all the views to indicate corondingg ports. ln said drawings w. l is an elevion showin e -iart of l: b the pipe for feedn fuel to the fireplace controlling the supl -ig. 4 is an elevation looking from the left in Fig. 3.
ln the construction shown in Figs. 1 and highly inflammable fuel such as saw oust or wood shavings is fed to the fireplace through pipes a and Z) connected respectively Whh a supply of fuel and the lire place. The pipes c and b are connected with each other a casing c of segmental section which is open at one side and has a bucket Wheel 5 rotatably mounted therein. The uheel (Z and the buckets thereof are so disp sod within the casing c and relatively to )ipes o: and F) that the fuel flowing the downwardly through the pipe a falls on the buckets located at one side of the axis 6 of the wheel which is therefore rotated by the gravity of the fuel. Should the flame ignite the fuel falling through the pipe Z) i is arrested by the bucket wheel (Z and deflected thereby into the outer air, so that it does not its the fuel Within the pipe a. The. ill'ilS e carries a registering apparatus f showin the amount of fuel flowing through the pipe 6.
in the modification shown in Figs. 3 and l the wood shavings full through the pipe o, the care 0 and the pipe 7/ into a fireplace. To the pipe 5 a pipe h is connected, means of which coal dust is passed from a tank 9 to the pipe I), the supply of coal dust being controlled by means of u screw conveyor '2: carrying the cool from the bot of the tank to the top end of the pipe h. The axis 3 of the screw conveyor is connected vith the axis 6 of the bucket Wheel (Z by a belt gearing m or the like, so that the amount of coal dust corresponds to the amount of fuel supplied through the pipe a.
While in describing the invention reference has been made to particular examples embodying the some, I Wish it to be understood that I do not limit myself to the constructions shown in the drawings and that rurious changes may he made in the general arrangement of the apparatus and the construction of its parts Without departing from the invention. For example, I do not limit myself to the construction of the means for regulating the supply of coal dust in accordance with the supply of Wood shavings shown in Figs. 3 and 4.
I claim: 1. 'The combination, With a fireplace, of a downwardly directed pipe for supplying fuel to said fireplace, a easing open at one side included in said pipe, and rotary vanes within said casing in position for being uperated by the fuel falling through said pipe and closed side of the casing.
2. The combination. with a fireplace, of a downwardly direeted pipe for supplying fuel to said lireplaee, a e: sing open at one side included in said pipe, and a rotany hueket Wheel inounied Within said casing so that the buckets at one side of its axi and on the closed side of the asing are struck by the fuel falling through said pipes.
3. The combination, with a lireplace, of a (lOWI1\.'t\lll 'y' directed pipe for supplying fuel to said fireplace, a casing open a side included in said pipe, rotary vanes within said aising in position for hei ope *az'ed by the fuel felii'ig through said pipe and the closed side of the (erasing, zu'l registering mechanism connected with said rotary vanes.
4. The combination, with a fireplace, of a dowi'iwardly directed pipe for supplying; fuel to said fireplace, a easing open at one side included in said pipe, a rotor bucket vi-heel mounted Within said easing so that the buckets at one side of its axis and on the closed side of the easing are struck by the fuel falling through said pipes. a second fuel supply, and means connected with said huci ei wheel for regulating the supply of fuel through said second fuel supply.
I). The combination with a fireplace, of a downn'ardl}, directed pipe for supplying fuel to said fireplace, a casing open at one side and in communication with said pipe,
nd a rotary wheel Within said casing and having the tunes on one side intersecting the pipe, end the vanes on the other side open to the atmosphere.
U. 'lhe COllllJlllililOll with a lirepluce, of u do\yn n'ardly directed pipe for supphving ruel to said nre nace, a easing open at one side and included in said pipe, and a rotary wheel mounted Wiihin the casing and harine' vanes on one side in line with the p:1.-: sa e 'h the pipe, and the va es on the other site extending; out through the open side of the casn'ig, and
a fuel supply pipe eoni'ieeted to the first n'ientioned pipe and having a fuel feeding mechanism connected wi'ih and driven by he rotary vanes.
in testimony whereof I hereunto aihx my signature.
