invention is the construction of a simple efficient shading a paratus to appliedto the wind-shield of an autoinobile, or i t be applied toldifi'erent' mechanisms,- where an eiiicient' shade is desired,- such as to the front er a sti-eevc'ar, or even: wanordinary window of a dwelling house.
With the foregoing and 'other objects 'in View, my invention comprises certain novel combinations, constructions and arrange ments of parts as will be h'ereinaf-ter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings," morepaaieaian pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of 'an apparatus constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view, taken on line 2-2, Fig. 1, and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal, sectional view of a roller tube device.
Figure 4 is an enlarged, fragmentary, sectional view of the apparatus.
Figure 5 is a plan view of the blank from which one of the bracket devices are formed.
Figure 6 is a perspective View of the adjustment plate.
Figure 7 is a perspective View of the locking screw.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates the wind-shield towhich I secure a pair of my bracket devices 2.
Each bracket device 2 is formed from a blank sheet of metal and comprises body portion 3 and a rack portion 4; these portions 3 and 4 are formed distinctly by bending the blank on line A, Fig. 5, so that portions 3 and 4 are at right-angles to each other, as shown in Fig. 1. In the body portion 3 are.screw-receivingapertures5 for receiving the screws 6, Fig. 1. In the rack portion 4 are a plurality of ratchet notches be held in an adpusted' '7, and intheupper' end of the rack portion 4, contiguous tothe' upper or innermost ratchet notch 7, is a straight, elongated slot 8,-which slot 8' is parallel with the longitudinal axis of' the-rack portion An elongated notch 9 isformed in the upper edge of the rack portion 4 of one of the bracket devices, and extendslongitudinally of saidrack portion. H U
A roller tube device 10 is einployed,-eon1- prising roller tube 11 which is providedwith i -cap 12 havin -a stub-shaft 13.- A comparatively long'sha-ft 14 is in the tube,
and one end of shaft l4 extends beyond one end of the tube' and is. threaded as'at 15.
Theshaft 14 is provided with a groove 16,
and a cottef-piri l7 extends throughi-the' shaftoutside of the roller'tube l l (Fig. 3)
A coil spring -18'has one end fastened, to the: shaft 14, at 1 9, and the other en'd'20-o'f said spring extends through tube. 1 1. Stub shaft 13 is seated in an ordinary aperture in one of the brackets,- while the comparatively long-shaft I4" is seated in elongatednotch-- 9, (Fig. 1). v
The adjustment plate 21 is provided with an aperture 22 and with an elongated notch 23. The shaft 14 extends through the aper ture 22, and on the threaded end 15 is a locking nut 24. The locking screw 25 has its threaded end 26 extending through notch 23 and into the rack portion 4, so that when the locking screw is screwed tight upon rack portion 4, against plate 21, the plate will the shaft 14 can be raisedor lowered within position, whereby notch 9, consequently allowing of a vertical 1 adjustment of one end'of the roller tube device upon the bracket devices so that the roller may be secured in a horizontal posi- 1 tion when put in place.
911 the curtain 27, that is wound around the roller tube 11, I place a clamp 28 by means of screw 29, and carried by clamp 28 is a flexible or leather grip 30. The curtain 27is provided with a rod 31 that has its ends normally seated in registering notches 7 or in the registering slots 8.
Thetensi'on of spring 18 is sufiicient to wind the curtain 27 upon the roller tube 11, thereby holding the curtain taut, as a result of the endsofrod 31 being seated in either the notches 7 or the slots 8. l
The attachment of the curtain can be quickly and easily obtained and my apparatus produces an admirable shade, for keeping out ligl1 t,or barring the sun-rays, or the glare of headlights, and the apparatus is adaptedfor use in several places, such as on manufacture or" the same and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such alterations or changes as shall fairly fall within the scope of theappended claims. 7
What I claim is:
1. A roller curtain mounting comprising a bracket having an attaching flange and an outstanding flange, the outstanding flange being provided witha longitudinally extending slot having upwardly extending side extensions extending at an incline and providing abutment shoulders, the upper portion of said outstanding flange being provided with a longitudinally extending roller pintle receiving slot and a threaded opening beneath the slot, .a bearing plate fitting against the outstanding flange and having a longitudinally extending slot in its lower portion and a roller pintle receiving opening above the slot, anda fastener screw having a shank provided with a rethe front of motor street-cars,-
ing provided with a longitudinally extend ing slot leading from its upper end and a threaded opening beneath the lower end of the slot, a bearing plate fitting flat against the outstanding flange and provided with a longitudinally extending slot leading from its lower end and an. opening above the upper end of the slot, the opening in the bearing plate being adapted to receive a roller pintle projecting through the slot of the outstanding flange, and a fastener having a shank passing through'the slot of the bearing plate and screwed into the threaded opening of the outstanding flange whereby the bearing plate may be vertica lly adjusted and upon tightening of the as tener be releasably secured in an adjusted position. 1 v f In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.
I KIT CARSON ZUMWALT.
