THE GRAPHIC CO FHOITO-LITHBSQ l PARK PLACE;
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE HENRY SAYLER, OF ST. PARIS, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED CLIPS AND BRACES FOR VEHICLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,338, dated September 22, 1874 {application filed September 12, 1873.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY SAYLER, of St. Paris, county of Ohampaign, State of Ohio, have invented certain Improvements in (Joinbined Top Plates and Head-Lines for Carriages, of which the following is a specification:
The object of myinvention is to provide for a combined top plate for saddle-clips and headline for fastening the springs of carriages or buggies, which is cheaper, better, neater, and stronger than the heretofore used or known devices for this purpose.
My invention consists in the construction of a top plate with two recesses for holding the saddle-clips of the lowerhalf of the front spring in their respective places.
Said top plate is constructed in one part or combined with the head line or brace running backward parallel to the reach, and so curved that its outer end will come down on the said reach, to which it is fastened by means of a bolt. In the center of the top plate is a hole for the reception of the center pin or bolt, on which the fore axle turns. I11 front of the top plate and attached to the same is a hook, which is placed in front of the spring, and thus gives additional strength and stability.
In order to more fully describe my invention, I refer to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification.
Figure I is a top View of a combined top plate and head-line embodying my invention. Fig. II is a side View of the same. Fig. III is a front view of the same.
A is the top plate; I) b, the recesses for the saddle-clips for fastening the lower half of the spring. f is the hole for the king-bolt, upon which the front axle turns; h, the hook for bracing and strengthening the spring; and I the head-line, which extends backward, and is fastened by a bolt to the couplii'lg-pole or reach.
Having thus described my invention, I claim The top plate A, having the recesses 12 b for the saddleclips which fasten the lower half of the spring, combined with the head-line I, as and for the purpose described.
HENRY SAYLER.
