IMPRCVEMENT INA PAN-LIFTERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,314, dated S ptember 22, 1874; application filed August 4, 1874.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, W. J. KERR and C. C. KERR, ot Springfield, in the county of Greene and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gombined Stove-Lid and Pan Lit'ters; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had t0 the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this speciication.

The nature of our invention consists in the construction and arrangement of acombined stove-lid and pan lifter, as will behereinafter lnore fully set forth.

In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a plan View of our device. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. Fig. 3 is a section through the line x ai, Fig. 2.

A represents a flat sheet-metal blade, of any suitable dimensions, attached to a handle, B. D represents a protector, extending upward from the rear edge of the blade A, and is either formed with the blade in one piece or attached to the same. C is a spring, fastened to the top of the handle B, and extending forward through a slot in the protector I). 0n

top of the protector is riveted a hook or stovelid lifter, E. The front edge of the hook O forms a h'ook, a, extending downward toward the blade A. One side of the slot bin the protector is formed with ratchet-teeth x, against which the edge of the spring O catches to hold said spring when pressed down.

To operate this device, take hold of the handle B with the right hand, with the thumb on top of the spring near the protector; then push the blade under a pan until the spring will catch. 'Ihen press down the spring until the hook a tightens on the pan, the spring catchying in the ratchets x, and holding the pan nicely. By pressing the thumb against the edge of the spring it will come out ot' the ratchet and rise ot' its own accord. By turning the top side down the stove-lid hook E is ready for use, the protector preventing the lid from tilting. The dat blade A will also answer for an ordinary stove-shovel.

Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The witlliirdescribed pan-lifter, consisting of the handle B, spring' C, with hook a, protector D, with ratchet and blade A, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
