To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Evnnr Bron, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tightening and Fastening Tools, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to tightening and fastening tools, and more particularly to tools for tightening up coils or loops of wire or flat bands for connecting up flexible or rubber pipe or hose or couplings. The device is also useful for tightening fence wire, metal cores of rubber tires, bundle fastenings, and the like. The invention has for further objects the provision of an improved tool of the general character stated, which will be superior in point of relative simplicity and inexpensiveness and compactness in form, taken in conjunction with durability, strength, facility and convenience in use, and general elficiency and serviceability.
The invention has for a further object the provision of a tool which willsecurely clamp wire, bands or the-like, about work, and which will hold the wire or band securely.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel and useful provision, formation, combination, association, construction and relative arrangement of parts, members and features, all as herein described, shown in the drawing, and finally pointed out in claims.

, Referring with particularity to the drawing, A and B designate operating members of a tool or implement embodying the 111- vention, the same being pivotally connected .ating member B beyond the point of pivotal connection 6, and a clamping head 9 upon the clamp member C, as clearly shown 1n Figure 5.
In operation the wire is drawn through or passed within the recess 6, and, as in the example shown, when it is desired to tighten up or cinch a loop of wire about the work, such as a patch or coupling 10, upon joining the ends of hose 11, the head 0 is brought to bear against the looped wire, the head'9 is swung inwardly toward the head 0, the head 8 is swung against the wire to embrace it between such head 8 and head 9 in clamping relation, and the member B is then swung toward the member A, which latter members will be held in the respective hands of an operator, bringing the parts into relative positions shown in Figure 2, whereby tension is putupon the wire ends 7 and the loop previously disposed about the hose patch or coupling tightened or tautened and constricted. v Thereupon the whole tool may be swung outwardly 'or in the direction of the large arrow in Figure 2, whereupon the wire ends 7 will be bent backwardly and caused to loop over the central loop 7* in the looped wire 7 around the patch or coupling, and the job may be finished off by clipping off the wire ends 7 short and hammering them down into completely fastened relation. Upon reference to the drawing, it will be noted that the operating member B is formed with a groove or notched portion 15, and that this notched portion functions to bend the wire 7 upwardly and away from the operating member B when the head 8 acts in conjunction with the clamping head 9 to grip the wire. This readily permits a further gripping of the wire when it is desired to clamp the wire I about the work or material more tightly.
Uses of the tool for other purposes such as tightening fencing, wire, etc, will readily suggest themselves.
The clamping member C may comprise side or cheek plates 12 and 13 held together by the pins of the pivotal connections (2V and Z) and by a turtl'ier pin 1%. It will be noted that the operating members A and B are each independently pivotally connected with the clamping member C so that there is a double pivotal connection between such operating members. After one strain has been put upon the wire or work by an operation as described, the wire ends or work may be suitably held, as by gripping with pliers or a vise-like device, and the arm B may be swung to separate the heads 8 and 9 and the head 9 brought again toward the head 0, a fresh bite taken upon the wire or work between the heads 8 and 9, and a further tightening operation performed.
It is obvious that many variations and changes may be made in adapting the invention to varying conditions of use and service, without departing from the true spirit of the invention; and many different substances and shapes of materials may be operated upon in use of the invention.
Having thus disclosed my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A tool of the character disclosed, comprising a pair of operating arms, a clamp member, said operating arms being spaced apart and independently pivoted to such clamp member; said clamp member including a plate formed with a clamping head at an angle to the plate, and one of such. operating arms being formed with a notched portion adapted to engage the clamping head of the plate.
2. A tool of the character disclosed, comprising a pair of operating arms, a clamp member, said operating arms being spaced apart and each independently pivoted to such clamp member; said clamp member including a plate formed with a clamping head at an angle to the plate, and one of such opere-ing arms being formed with a head provided with a notched portion adapted to cooperate with and engage the clamping head of the plate; said other operating arm being formed with a head portion extending beyond the pivotal zone between such arm and the clamp member.
A tool of the character disclosed, comprising a pair of operating arms, a clamp member, said or crating arms being each independently pivoted to such clamp member; said clamp member incluning a plate formed with a clamping head, and one of such operating arms being formed with a head adapted to co-operate with the clamping head of the plat said other operating arm being formed with a head portion extending beyond the pivotal Zone between such arm and the clamp member; said head portion being formed with a transverse slot.
i. A device of the character disclosed, including a clamp member comprising a pair of spaced plates, one of such plates being provided with a head in part spanning the space between such plates, a first arm pivoted between such plates and formed with a part adapted to cooperate with the head on one of such plates, and a second arm pivoted between such plates.
5. A device of the character disclosed including a clamp member comprising a pair of spaced plates, one of such plates being provided with a head in part spanning the space between such plates, a first arm pivoted between such plates and formed with a part adapted to cooperate with the head on one of such plates, and a second arm pivoted between such plates; said second arm being formed with a transverse slot, and the relation of such arms being such that work may be received in the transverse slot or" such second arm, and likewise gripped as between the head on the plate and said first named arm.
