*f1-UNITED. STATES our. micron, or ELIZABETH, Naw amsn-.
slsnsnw.
Application tiled January .23, 1824. VSerial lo. 687,896.
To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, CARL HECTOR, a citizen of Germany, residing at Elizabeth, in
which the seats are individually adjustable the county of Union and State 4of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Seesaws, of which the following isa specification.Y
This invention relates to improvements' in amusement devices or lplaythmgs, for children and particularly to types known as seesawsv or teeter beams on which two persons ma be exhilaratingly entertained.
ne of the objects of the invention'is to provide an unusually safe apparatus and which is far more comfortable to use than ordinary devices for the same purpose.
Another purpose is to produce a devlce that can be easily dismantled and moved,
either indoors or out, as may be desired.
A further aim is in the provision oa device that is adjustable for height, rotatable in any preferred position, and in along the beam so that the riders may be balanced notwithstanding disparity `in l weight.
These objects, and others of a similar nature, are accomplished by the novel construction, combination and arrangementof parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing an embodiment of the invention as assembled ready for use.
Figure'2 is a partial side, partial sectional view of the same.
Referring more in detail tothe drawing, the numeral 10 designates in general, the base of the apparatus, the same being composed of two crossed strips of wood, havin at their intersection a radial ball bearing 11.
A stationary circular plate 12 is supported by convergingly inclined supports 13, rigidly fastened at their lower ends to the cross pieces 10 near their outer ends.
Passing through a central opening in the plate 12 is a vertical post 14 having a re duced lower end 15 fitting the bearing 11, and fixed rigidly on the post is a collar 16 seated on the plate 12 to sustain the weight of the post and. its attached parts. The upper end 17 of the post is preferably rectangular in cross section, 4as shown, and
.vided with a head g thatfulfills its expressed containsa relatively narrow, elongated slot 18,- the side walls of which have a pluralit of transverse holes-19 to receive a'pin 20. Said epm may be enlgaged in any pair of holes and acts as a 'fu crum for a lever-like 00 beam 21 of suitable length' and on its ends are mounted seats 22, having below them guide plates 23, between which elements'the beam 1s slidably received and -which mav be used as foot supports.
A. back 24. is supported at the rear of the seat by connections 25 rigidly xed in the guide 23, and at the front are similar connections 26, leading to a narrow support 27 on which the hand rest 28 is rigidly mounted. 7 Passing through the beam 21, near its ends, are a plurality of holes 29 in which may be engaged pins 30, the same being roor eye` to permit t eir said pins also passing and guide plates respecready extraction, through the seat tively 22 and 23.
e operation wiil now be considered;
placing the stand, composed of the base and ring supported thereby, where it is desired, B0 the post is entered and will freely turn therein.
The beam is passed through the slot in the post and secured by the fulcrum pin at such` height as is deemed best and thereafter the seats are passed over the end of the beam4 and held in adjustment by the pin, lockingthe seats against sliding movement.
Obviously if one person is heavier than the other', the seats will be adjusted at dif- 00 ferent distances along the beam and the beam may be raised or rotated at any time in an easy manner.
From the foregoing it will be seen that an attractive, safe and interesting form of 05 childrens divertisement .has been disclosed objects.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A see-saw comprising a rigid stand having upper and lower registering bearings,I a rotatable post removably engaged therein and extending from the bottom, said post having an elongated slot in its upper eX- tending portion vand registering transverse holes in the walls of the slot, a lever beam,
a fulcrum pin for said beam adjustably engageable in the mentioned holes, said beam having spaced roles in its end portions, 1N
slides embracing the ends of said beam, one slide may be locked in adjustment said pin element of each slide acting as a seat and having a head accessible to a rider above the other as a foot support, supports for the the seat.
back of a rider' associated with 'the seat, i In witness whereof I have axed my sig- 6 hand grips opposite said back supports and nature.
a (pin passing transversely through said` sli e and edgewise of the beam whereby the CARL HECTOR.A
