Be it known that 1, GARNETT KYTLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kenner, in the parish of Jefferson and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and useful Bottle Box, of which the following is a specification.

rlhis invention relates to shipping crates or the like and has for its primary object to provide novel means whereby bottles or jars may be securely held within a shipping crate in a manner to prevent the bottles from contacting with each other while in transit.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be readily positioned within a crate and forced into engagement with the bottles supported therein to grip the bottles and hold them against movement.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the drawing:

Figure 1 is a plan view disclosing clamping devices constructed in accordance with the invention as positioned in a bottle crate.

Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure l.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the clamping device includes a plurality of parallel sections 5 which are of lengths to fit within the crate in which they are positioned in such a manner that the ends thereof will closely engage the ends of the crate, as clearly shown by Figure 1 of the draws shown, these members 5 are disposed in parallel relation with each other, each member being provided with a plurality of semi circular cut out portions 6 disposed along one edge thereof, and arranged in such a way that when the members 5 are positioned, the semi-circular cut out portions of one member 5 will accommodate portions of the bottles positioned within the box, while the adjacent straight edge of the member 5 ar ranged next thereto will engage the bottles and hold them within the semi-circular cut out portions.

One of the members 5, as shown by Figure 1 is supplied with a wedging section 7 which is relatively short and provided with a curved edge 8, the members 7 being hingedly connected to the .sections supporting it by means of the hinges 9 so that the member 7 may be swung downwardly from its dotted line position in Figure 2 of the drawing, to a position to engage one side of the crate to wedge the mem-bers 5 to their active posi tions and lock the members 5 against movement.

In the positioning of the members 5 it will be seen that the member 5 carrying the wedging section 7 has its semi-circular cut out portions 6 arranged adjacent to the semicircular cut out portions of the adjacent member 5 so that the registering cut out portions will provide circular openings for the reception of bottles.

Spaced bars 9 are arranged on the end members of the crate and are disposed intermediate the upper and lower edges thereof, in such a way as to provide guides for the members 5 so that vertical movement of the members 5 will be prevented. While spaced bars 9 have been shown, it is to be understood that the ends of the crate may be provid-ed with grooves of widths to accommodate the members 5.

From the foregoing it will be obvious that due to this construction, clamping members which are held in the crate may be moved into engagement with bottles positioned therein, and that when the member 8 has been properly positioned, movement of the bottles will be absolutely prevented and all danger of one bottle contacting with an adjacent bottle, while in transit, is eliminated.

I claim A j 1. In a device of the character described,

a plurality of movable sections adapted for' f positioning within a crate, said sections having cut out portions adapted to embrace portions of bottles positioned in the crate, and a hinged,membercar'riedby one of the sections and adaptedto be forced into engagement with one wall of the crate to move the sections into clamping relation with each other.-
