IMPROVEMENT IN MEAT-CUTTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,205, dated September 22, 1874; application iiled May 18, 1874.
T0 all whom it may concern:
` Be it knownk that I, EPHRATM SEIDNER, of Elkhart county, Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Meat- Cutters, of which the following is a description, reference being to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates to a device for cutting meat and consists of a case having a hollow cylindrical center and a feed aperture or hopper, through which the material is delivered to a tapered roller, having two spiral rows of teeth, which, as the roller is operated, pass between knives set in the case at right angles to the roller.
The object of the invention is to provide a convenient and efficient means of cutting meat and other analogous material.
Figure 1 is a plan view of the part B. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the part D. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal central section. Fig. 4 is an end view.
A in the accompanying drawings is a box or case, divided longitudinally into the parts B and D, and provided with semi-cylindrical spaces which, when one portion of the case is placed upon the other, exactly coincide, the edges of the parts being furnished with the studs a and apertures b to hold them in proper relation. The part B is provided with the recess d, which is more concave on its upper edge, where it meets and coincides withthe recess e, which terminates at the hopper, while the lower part ofthe recess d vanishes gradually upon the bottom of the part B, which, at its other end, is furnished with the dischargevent E. The knives F are of similar dimensions, being concave on their rear edges, which are iirmly mortised in the material, while their front edges are straight, and stand at an angle of about ninety degrees (900) to the roller H, approaching in proper proximity thereto. These knives are placed upon the opposite inside portions of the parts B and D, the edges whereof are faced with metal to assist in se curing the knives in position. One end of the roller H is formed of a tapering head, I, near the end and upon opposite sides of which begin the grooves L, increasing gradually in depth, and finally vanishing upon the thinner portion M of the roller, which. increases in diameter toward the exit-aperture, and is provided with the teeth N, commencing directly at the termination of the grooves L, and curving spirally about the part M to the end of the roller, the rows being placed equidistantly from each other, and the teeth nearer together upon the thinner portion of the part M, their distance increasing as they approach the exit-aperture. Vhen the roller is in position, the lower portion of the head L is adjacent to the recesses d e, and immediately below the hopper z' in the part D. The teeth N pass between the knives F. An axle, P, is provided at each end of the roller H, turning in bearings at each end of the case A, and one or both axles are provided with a crank, by means of which the roller is rotated.
The operation is as follows: The parts B and D are placed together, and the operation is performed by introducing the material through the hopper fi, when, coming in contact with the grooves L, it is compressed and carried forward until it reaches the pins N, which force it against the knives F, thus cutting it, and as the roller H revolves the material is carried oil, being cut at every impact with the knives until discharged from the exit-vent, reduced to small pieces.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The roller H, provided with the tapered head I, and the tapered portion M, having respectively the grooves L and teeth N, arranged as specified, in combination with the recesses d e and knives F, substantiallyas shown and described.
