IMPROVEMENT IN BLIND AND DOOR ADJUSTERS.
Speciiication forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,190, dated September 22, i874; application filed August 14, 1874.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FENToN M. HENDER- SON, of Leesburg, Loudoun county, Virginia, have invented certain Improvements in Blind or Door Adjusters, of which the following is a specication:
rlhc object of my invention is to hold blinds or doors bowed at any angle, perhaps as great as sixty degrees, (600,) to fasten them back to the wall, and to keep them closed against any reasonable force, and my invention consists in attaching grooved bed-plates to the shutters 0r doors and door-jambs, and sliding thin iiexible strips or plates in the grooves of the same, which strips are adjusted by set-screws, and have notched ends overlapping each other, and held by a band or yoke, there being also catch ends, or equivalent pin or button, to hold the free ends when sprung into bowed position, as shown in the accompanying drawing, and hereinafter more fully described.
Figure l represents my device as bowing window-blinds or double doors. Figs. 2 and 3 are detached views of my invention.
P is a grooved bed plate, attached to or sunk into the shutter or door or to the doorjamb, having a band at the point to resist the strain. B is a thin iiexible plate or strip of metal or wood moving in the grooved bedplate, the position of the iiexible plate or strip being controlled by the screw S. This plate or strip is forked at the point, shown at F, and G is a band or yoke attached to the flexible plate or strip, and having its opening on the outside, so as to admit the points of the opposite plate or strip, which are turned up or back, so as to prevent the plates or strips from separating, and these turnings-up are represented by c c.
As the iiexible plates or strips are moved forward in the grooved bed-plate the window or door is bowed. As they are moved backward, they are gradually closed without slamming.
Fig. 2 shows the position of the flexible plates or strips when they are detached and the window or door is thrown back against the wall. The plate or strip B being pushed outward its fork F is made to slide behind a nail, N, fixed in the wall, and the screw S being tightened the door or blind is held securely back. l
Fig. 3 shows the blinds closed, the points of the iiexiblc plates or strips crossing each other, the one on the outside passing through the yoke, and by means of the catches or turnedback points c c being held in position, while the screws S S being turned home against or into the grooved bed-plate, the windowblind or door is held into position with a reasonable degree ot' security.
I claim as my invention- An improved blind or door adjuster, consisting ot' the grooved bed-plates P P, the flexible strips or plates B B, having their free ends notched and sliding within the bed-plates, the band or yoke G, the set-screws S S, and the end catchers c c, or their equivalent pin or button, all constructed, arranged, and operating, substantially as described and shown, for the purposes set forth.
