Be it known that LJYILLIAV C. DILI/OX, a. citizen of the l'nited States, and a resident of Fort Dodge in the county of \Vebster and State of Iowa. have invented a certain 'new and useful Shearing Device and Safe Attachment Locks, of which the following is a specififor Auxiliary Vault-Door cation.
The, object of m v invention is to provide a shearing device attachment for auxiliary vault and safe door locks, the parts being of simple durable and comparatively inex )ensive construction.
11v invention relates to an attachment especially designed to shear a flexible element for releasing an auxiliary locking device when the COlIllJIJatlOD lock on the z'ault or safe door is pushed inward.
Still another object is to provide a frangible plate extending over the combination lock and so arranged that when the combination lock is pushed inward, the plate.

invention consists in the construction, ar-

In the accompanying drawings, I have used the reference numeral 10 to indicate generally a 'vaultor safe door which is provided with an inwardly extendingfiange 11 on its inner s'idenea'r its edge.

The auxiliary locking device is designed to coact with the bolt mechanism for preventing their unauthorized movement. In order to hold the auxiliary locking device normally inactive, I provide a flexible element 16.

Sometimes burglars attempting to gain access into the vault will punch the combination lock, or burn around the combination lock so tha the bolt mechanisms will be free to operate. The flexible element is so ar ranged that the punching in of the combination lock or the burning of a vault door will cause it to be severed.
In Figures and 6 of the" drawings, I have shown a slightly modified form of my invention in which form, I provide a pair of bolts 94 which are screwed into the vault The bolts 24 are provided with sleeves Resting upon the sleeves .25 and below the heads of the bolts 24 is a frangible plate 526.. In this form of invention the flexible element 16 passes below the plate 26. The stud 99 is held in position against movement. in one direction by the combination mechanism Ll. and against movement in the opposite direction by the flexible element 16.
The punching in of the combination lock will cause the stud to be moved inward, thus breaking the frangible plate .26 and releasing the stud '28- As soon as the stud 2Q r leased the auxiliary locking device is then operated.
The ends of the Flexible element 16 is also released when stud :28 is moved, and the openlng n1 stud 28 permits the flexible element 16 to slide,
through it in event the flexible element is released due to burning gases being applied tothe door.
It will he scen that my'devire is very sim-. ple and that I have provided a very efficient device-l0! releasing the flexible element so as to permit the auxiliary locking device to operat when the combination mechanism is punched inward, u! the flexible element is burned. 4 I
Some changes maybe made in the construction, and arrangement of the various aarts of my device without departing from the'e'ssential features and purposes of my invention. and it is my intention to cover by my claims, any modified forms of structure or usc'of mechanical equivalents, which may be reasonably included within'their scope.
