Be it known that I, ROBERT JAMrEsoN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Utica, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Shuttle-Feeler Thread Parters, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like characters on the drawings representing like parts.
This invention relates to shuttle feeler thread parters which part the outgoing lilling end extending between the cloth selvage and shuttle when filling is to be replenished. In mechanisms of this general type it has been common heretofore to mount the thread parter or the thread parter and clamp on the shuttle feeler, so that when the shuttle feeler is moved to its rearward shuttle feeling position on call for replenishment of the filling, the parter or parter and clamp will be actuated by direct impact of the lay to part the old filling end. The lay movement or its position when it reaches front center is not identically the same in all looms, and with the old shuttle feeler thread parters some difficulty has been experiences in adapting lay operation of the parter when the shuttle feeler and parter were used in different looms. One of the purposes of the present invention is to provide a shuttle feeler thread parter or thread parter and clamp which is adapted for use in any usual type of loom, and to provide a parter actuator independent of the parter itself which may be adjusted for actuation of the parter in dierent looms.
In accordance with the present invention, the shuttle feeler has mounted thereon a thread parter which is in open position when the shuttle feeler and parter are moved towards the rear of the loom on call for replenishment of filling, and the actuator for the parter is independently mounted on the shuttle feeler for actuation by the lay as the latter moves towards its front position.
As more particularly stated, the thread parter is operated by an actuator independently mounted on the shuttle feeler and having a bunter which may be adjusted to suit different lay conditions that it may be adapted readily for use in looms, even where the lay movement varies.

In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a shuttle feeler and thread parter containing the present invention; and
Fig. 2 is a perspective of the shuttle feeler and thread parter in their rearward position just prior to operation of the parter by the actuator.
In the present invention, as usual, in looms, the shuttle feeler is mounted for movement towards its rearward shuttle feeling position when the filling is to be replenished, and during normal weaving, such shuttle feeler, as usual, is in frontward inoperative position. It has not been deemed necessary herein to illustrate details of the means for moving the shuttle feeler to its rearward feeling position on call for replenishment of illing, because the details of such means form no .essential part of the present invention, and indeed the shuttle feeler itself may vary in construction and mounting within the scope of the present invention.
The loom frame has secured thereto a bracket l which may be of the usual type, and pivotally supported on a stud or dead shaft 2 is the shuttle feeler 3, the upper rear end portion of which at l is provided with the usual opening 5 into which the filling thread a. may pass when the shuttle feeler is moved to its rearward feeling position, as indicated in Fig. 2 and by dotted lines in Fig. l.
The shuttle feeler 3 has a lug 6, Fig. l, which is engaged between the jaws 7, 8 which are controlled from the detector mechanism, as usual, the construction being such that on call for replenishment of filling by the detector mechanism, the jaws 7, 8, acting upon the stud 6 will move the shuttle feeler to its rearward feeling position. If desired, the bracket l may have a guide 9 extending therefrom and between the jaws of which the shuttle feeler 3 may move towards and from the rear of the loom.
Mounted upon the shuttle feeler, in the present instance, is a fixed parter l0 and the thread clamping member 1l, between which is pivotally supported the movable parter l2. The movable parter 12 is pivotally supported on a stud 13 and the parts may be held in proper associated position by a spring washer 14. The parter may be Cil limited in its opening and closing movements by means of a pin 15 passing through a notched opening 16 of the movable parter. These parts may be formed as indicated in F ig. 1.
Mounted upon the shuttle feeler 8 independent of the parter is an actuator for operating the parter to part the old o r outgoing filling thread, and as shown in the present instance of the invention, the actuator ycomprises a lever pivotally supported upon the shuttle feeler frontward of the pivotal support of the thread parter. More in detail, the actuator comprises a bell crank lever pivotally mounted at 17 on a lug 1.8 extending from the shuttle feeler and is provided with a rearwardly extending arm 19, the rear end portion of which is in cooperation relative to the parter 12. In the construction shown the parter 12 is provided with a top edge portion 20 preferably formed as a straight edge, and the arm 19 is provided with a guiding end portion 21, formed with side cheeks 22, constituting` a guide into which the upper edgel portion 2O of the parter extends and by which these two elements are held in cooperative relation.
Extending downwardly from the pivotal point 17 of the actuator is an arm 23 the lower` end portion 24 of which has threaded therein the bunter 25 which may be held in adjusted position by a lock nut 26, and the bunter is provided with a head 27 adapted to be engaged by the lay or a part mounted thereon as the lay moves to its front position, the construction being such that the lay imparted movement of the bunter is connnimicated to the actuator to thereby close the parter 12 to part, or to part and clamp, the thread, as the lay approaches its front position.
Extending from the front end 28 of the parter 12 is a pin 29 which in cooperation with a trip 30 as the shuttle feeler moves to its rearward feeling position, serves to open the paiter into the position indicated in Fig. 2. In the present instance, the trip 30 is pivotally supported at 31 on an arm 32 secured to the bracket 1 at 38. The trip 30 has a projection 34 which in cooperation with another projection 35 on the arm 32 serves to limit the trip in its movement rearwardly as the pin 29 passes along the incIi-ii-ed surface 36 of the trip, with the re` sult that as the shuttle feeler is moved to its rearward position on call for replenishment of filling, the parter 12 will be open, and as the shuttle feeler moves to its frontward position after the parter has been operated by its actuator to cut the thread between the shuttle and cloth selvage and is therefore closed, the pin 29 will move the trip 30 about its pivotal support and pass frontwardly thereof, still holding the end of the cut thread leading towards the cloth selvage.
By forming the actuator for the parter as a feature independent of the parter itself and independently mounted on t-he feeler, and by providing the actuator with an adjustable bunter, the shuttle feeler and parter associated as hereinbefore described, may be applied to any of the usual looms now employed, and accommodate the parter actuator to the lay movements by adjustment of the bunter. The cheek portions 22 of the actuator arm 19 eectively serve to hold the movable parter and actuator in cooperative relation. Usually the weight of the downwardly extending arm 23 of the actuator and the bunter will serve to maintain the arm 19 and parter in their associated relation, but of course a spring 37 may be provided as an additional means for maintaining the actuator and parter in associated relation.

1. In a loom, the combination of a shuttle feeler, a thread parter mounted on the shuttle feeler to part the filling extending yfrom the filling carrier to be ejected, an actuator for the parter mounted on the shuttle feeler independent of the parter, a bunter carried by the actuator independent of the pai-ter for engagement by the lay on the beat up for operating the actuator, and means for changing the relation between the bunter and actuator to vary the time of parter operation relative to the lay movement.
2. In a loom, the combination of a shuttle feeler, a thread parter mounted on the shuttle feeler to part the filling extending from the lling carrier to be ejected7 an actuator for the parter pivotally mounted on the shuttle feeler independent of the parter and having an arm which rides along` the parter as it is operated by the actuator, a bunter mounted on the actuator independent of the parter to be engaged by the lay on the beat up for operating the actuator, and means ,for changing the relation between the bunter and actuator to vary the time of parter operation relative to the lay movement.
3. In a loom, the combination of a shuttle feeler, a thread parter on the shuttle feeler, an actuator for the parter comprising a lever pivotally mounted on the shuttle feeler independent of the parter and having a parter operating arm connected to the parter, and an arm connected to the actuator having an adjustable bunter for engagement by the lay.
4. In a loom, the combination of a shuttle feeler, a thread parter on the shuttle feeler, an actuator for the parter comprising a lever pivotally mounted on the shuttle feeler independent of the parter and having a parter operating arm which rides along the parter as the parter is opera-ted, and an adjustable bunter adapted to be struck by the lay for operating the actuator.
5. In a loom, the combination of a shuttle feeler, a thread parter on the shuttle feeler, an aetuator for the parter comprising a lever pivotally mounted on the shuttle ,feeler independent of the parter and having a parter operating arm provided with a guide which rests upon the parter, and a downwardly extending arm connected to the actuator provided with an adjustable bunter for engagement by the lay for operating the actuator.
6. In a loom` the combination of a shuttle eeler, a thread parter pivoted to the feeler, a bell crank lever pivoted to the eeler independent of the parter and having one arm resting upon the edge of the parter and a second arm provided with an adjustable bunter for engagement by the lay for operating the parter.
