J.H.BALMER TOILET ACCESSORY Filed April 28, 1925 WITNESSES INVENTOR JOHN H. BALMER C ZZAMZQZZQ I BY I v I ATTORNEYS Patented Aug. 18, 1925.
UNITED STATES JOHN H. BALMEIR', OF MAPLEWOOD, NEW JERSEY.
TOILET ACCESSORY.
Application filed April 28, 1925. Serial" No. 26,561.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN H. BALMER, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Maplewood, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Toilet Accessory, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to accessories for toilets constituting a fixture for attachment to the wall and comprehends a combined ash tray, cigar or cigarette holder, match holder and newspaper holder.
The outstanding object of the present invention is to provide a combined article holder as an accessory or fixture for toilets which is extremely simple and compact in its structure, highly efiicient in its purpose and inexpensive to manufacture and install.
With the above recited and other objects in View, reference is had to the following specification and drawings in which there is exhibited one example or embodiment of the invention which is in no way intended as a limitation upon the scope of the appended claims as it is to be clearly understood that variations and modifications which properly fall within the scope of said claims may be resorted to when found expedient.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of the holder constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view therethrough.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference the holder comprises a base 10 of substantially rectangular configuration which is provided with a pair of vertically spaced forwardly projecting horizontal lugs 11 and 12, the lower face 13 of the upper lug 11 and the upper face 14 of the lower lug 12 diverging outwardly with respect to each other from the base to provide a substantially wedge shaped recess for receiving and holding a newspaper therein. The upper lug 11 is provided in its upper face with a depression 15 which constitutes a receptacle for ashes, cigar and cigarette butts, burnt matches or other smoking refuse. The depression 15 defines end walls 16 which are provided with arcuate notches 17 and 18 of relatively difi'erent sizes to constitute rests for cigars, cigarettes or pipe stems. The upper face or the base 10 i pro vided with a rectangular depression or recess 19, the front wall 20 of which is in approximate alinement with the front wall 21 of the base and the bottom wall 22 of which extends below the lower wall or face of the lug 11 so that an elongated opening or slot 23 is provided which establishes communica tion between the bottom of the recess 19 and the wedge shaped recess between the walls 13 and 14 to afford an outlet for the recess 19 thereby allowing water or other accumulations to be discharged from the said recess 19. The bottom wall 22 of the recess is provided with an upwardly projecting reo- 7 tangular lug 24. of smaller size than the recess 19 which is designed to accommodate a box of matches so that the body isprojected upwardly from the telescoping cover of the box to expose the ends of the matches from the top edge of the cover. The holder is designed to be removably attached to the wall in any suitable manner so that the same may be removed for emptying the contents of the depression or receptacle 15 and for cleaning the same.
From the foregoing it will thus be seen that an article holder as an accessory for toilets is provided which affords a convenient means for holding a newspaper, 35 cigarettes, cigars, pipes and other similar articles especially in public toilets where no convenient means is provided for such articles.
I claim: 7
1. An accessory for toilets constituting a combined article holder comprising a base adapted to be attached to a wall, a pair of vertically spaced forwardly projecting lugs having outwardly diverging confronting upper and lower walls defining a wedge shaped recess therebetween, a depression in the upper face of the upper lug constituting a smoking refuse receptacle and a depression in the upper face of the base constituting a match box receptacle.
2. An accessory for toilets constituting a combined article holder comprising a base adapted to be attached to a wall, a pair of vertically spaced forwardly projecting lugs having outwardly diverging confronting upper and lower walls defining a wedge shaped recess therebetween, a depression in the upper face of the upper lug constituting a smoking refuse receptacle and a depression in'the upper face of the base constitu'ting a matchbox receptacle, the front wall of the latter depression being disposed substantially in alinement with the front wall of the base and extending downwardly below the upper lug to form an opening coinn'iunicating with the wedge shaped recess to afford an outlet for discharging extraneous matter from the recess in the base.
A combined article holder constituting an accessory for toilets comprising a substantially rectangular base adapted for detachable association with a wall, a pair of forwardly projecting vertically spaced horizontal lugs on the base provided respectively with outwardly diverging confronting walls constituting a wedge shaped slot for receiving a folded newspaper, a depression in the upper face of the upper lug constituting a smoking refuse receptacle and defining end walls each having a pair of arcuate shaped notches of dillerent sizes to constitute cigar, cigarette and pipe stem rests, and a rectangular recess in the upper wall of the base having a reduced upstanding lug on the bottom wall to serve as a match box holder.
