Description

' ATTORNE? Patented Aug. 16, 1925.
UNlTED STATES was WILLIAM RYNIEWICZ, 7F DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
LOOM OUTLET BOX.
Application filed. October 12, 1921. Serial No. 507,167.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, W'ILLIAM RYN-Inwrez, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of. li ayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Loom Outlet. Box, of which the following is specification.
My invention relates to a new a rd useful improvement in a loozn outlet box or plate and has for its object the provision in a loom outlet box or plate of adjustable means for supporting said plate or box.
Another object is the provision of means for supporting a loom outlet plate or box which will be simple in structure, economical of manufacture and highly efiicient in use.
Another object is the provision of supporting means for such a box or plate which will afford means for readily and etlieiently securing the plate or box in position and at the same time provide means for securing an insulating plug in position.
Another object is the provision of a loom outlet box or plate together with support ing means therefor which may be easily and quickly arranged for mounting upon differently sized and arranged structures.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by a reference to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification and in which,
Fig. 1 is a top plan View of the invention,
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the plate used in the invention,
Fig. 3 is a sectional View taken on substantially line 83 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 4 is sectional view taken on substan tially line tlof Fig. 1.
The invention is designed for use with what is commonly called a loom outlet box or plate, and in this connection it is to be noted that whereever the words box or plate are used in this specification or in the claims they are so used as to be interchangeable. This is so because a plate or box may be used with the invention without any change, the selection as to whether a plate or box is to be used being left to the discretion of the mechanic working on each individual job, and being determined largely by the nature of each particular piece of work with which it is designed to use the invention.
The invention may be used either with the knob and tube system of outlet boxes or with the conduit system of outlet boxes. The outlet box comprises a box, generally constructed of metal, into which the concealed electric wires are led before passing to the insulating plug to which the fixtures are attached. Inasmuch as this box or plate must support the weight of the fixtures it is necessary that the same be securely f; ned in position. This is sometimes very dinicult owing to the absence of any secure material to which to fasten it at the point desired. The result is that either the fixture is shifted slightly out of its desired position, insecurely fastened or crude improvised means provided for fastening the box provided. In the last. mentioned case the box is often set out considerable distance from the surface to which it is attached with a consequent marring of the appearance of the hanging. The present invention is designed to overcome these difficulties as well as to afford other advantages which will appear the description proceeds.
The preferred form of construction comprises an outlet box or plate 7 I have shown an outlet plate in the drawings. If it is desired to use a box the walls 8 would be deepened to form the box or a cup-shaped member. Projected through suitable slots formed in the member 7 is a clamping memher 9, formed U shaped and terminating at its base in an internally threaded socket 10. Threaded into this socket, before insertion of the member 9 through the member 7, is a stud 11 which is provided at. its upper end with a head 12 and at its lower end with a slot or groove 13 which affords a means of turning the stud by means of a screw driver. The ends 1% and 15 of the arms of the U shaped member are doubled upon themselves so as to provide a space into which the legs of a U-shaped supporting bar 16 may be inserted. The member 16 is provided intermediate its ends, at that portion which generally bears the weight of the supported fixture, with a groove or longitudinally extending pocket, the same being formed by pressing the metal of the member 16 inwardly as shown. The bar 16 is provided, adjacent each of its ends with a number of holes 18 through which bolts or screws may be passed for securing the bar to the joisi's 19. is provided with u 7 through which the p or (:onduia passed.
