Patented Aug. 1a, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LESTER KIRSCHBBAUN, OF EVANSTON, ILLINOIS.
PROCESS OF MAKING COLORED WATERPROOF FELT.
No Drawing. Application filed February 1, 1919, Serial- Ho. 274,500. Renewed October 28, 1921. Serial To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LESTER KIRsoHBRAUn, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Evanston, county of Cook, and 5 State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Processes of Making Colored Waterproof Felt, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in 1 colored waterproof compositlons particularly adapted for floor purposes, and has, as its salient object, 'to provide a waterproof sheet consisting essentially of colored felted fibre saturated with a binder of a more or 1 less neutral color.
In the present invention I first take the fibre which is to be felted and, while in the I beater engine, dye the fibre any predeter= mined color, such as blue, red or green.
The colored fibre, after being felted, is run through a saturating tank containing an adhesive binder of a suitable color. This binder may consist of pitch derived from the distillation of petroleum wax tailings or combinations of such itch with animal or vegetable pitches whic are sufiiciently neutral tinted so that the color of the dyed fibre v isvnot obscured "by the .saturant. If I deneutral color.
sire to obtain a green saturated flooring felt, V the fibrous dry felt may be dyed an intense blue, and the saturant may consist of yellow pitch derived from the distillation of petroleum wax tailings. I have referred to the use of pitch derived from the distillation of petroleum wax tailings, In many cases linseed oil will be an excellent saturant, as this linseedoil is, of itself, a more or less The result in color is reen. Other results in colors may be obtaine in a similar manner.' 1
I claim as my invention:
1. A process of making colored water-; proof felt, consisting in dyeing the fibre a predetermined color, then passing the colored dry felt through a saturating tank containing heated 'wax tailings, which will not obscure the predetermined color of the fibres.
2. A, process of making colored water: proof felt, consisting in dyeing the fibre'a predetermined color, then passing the colored dry felt through a saturating tank containing aheated wate roof satur'ant, which will not obscure the co or of the fibres.
