STONE-FINISHING MACHINE.

Be it known that I, ARsENIo HERNANDEZ, a subject of the King of Spain, residing at Dunmore, in the county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Stone-Finishing Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in stone finishing machines, the present invention being an improvement over that filed by me on May 5, 1924, Serial No. 711,210.
The general object of this invention is to improve the construction of the form of machine by providing means for facilitating its operation and for making the cutting blades removable so that the blades can be resharpened or new ones substituted for the old ones.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the invention.

Figure 5 is a fragmentary view of one of the cutters.
Figure 6 is a fragmentary view of'the cutter roller with teeth removed.
Referring to Figure 1, 1 indicates a track with which the wheel of a truck 2 engages, the truck being moved along the track by means of a nut member on the truck engaging a threaded shaft 3 carried by the supports 4 which are placed between the rails of the track. This truck is arranged to support a block of stone and on its forward movement the truck will pass under a cutter device 5 which will dress the upper surface of the block. This device is supported on the uprights 6 and it is driven from a shaft 7 through the belt 8 and pulleys 9, the shaft 7 being supported on the up rights 10. This shaft 7 also drives the screw shaft 3 by the belt 11 and the pulleys 12. An idle pulley 13 is arranged on the shaft 7 alongside the pulley 12 thereon and a manually operated belt shifter 14 is arranged to place the belt on either the pulley 12 or the pulley 13. When the apparatus is to be operated the belt is placed on the pulley 12 and when the operation is to cease the belt is shifted upon the loose pulley 13. A hand wheel 15 is fastened to the shaft 3 so that the truck can be returned to its starting point by manual power.
The cutter device comprises a roller 16 which has reduced ends 17 for engaging the bearings in the uprights 6. This roller is provided with annular grooves 17 adjacent the ends of its major part and this major part is also provided with longitudinally extending grooves 18 which are secantly arranged and are designed to receive the bases of the cutting strips or blades 19. These blades or strips are provided with notches 20 adjacent their ends which register with the annular grooves 17 when the blades are in position so that a pair of split rings 21 can be placed in the grooves 17 and notches 20 to hold the blades in position. The ends of each ring are bolted together, as shown'at 22.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided means whereby the cutting blades or strips can be easily removed and sharpened or replaced by new ones.
This device will finish stones which have been roughly finished by manual labor or by machinery and the cutters on the cutting device can be kept sharp.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is In a stone dressing machine, a cutting roller having longitudinally extending grooves therein and annular grooves adjacent its ends, cutting blades fitting in the longitudinally extending grooves and having notches in their ends for registering with the annular grooves, split rings engaging the annular grooves and the notches for removably holding the blades in position and means for fastening the ends of each ring together.
