' R. L. MOORE SANITARY PROTECTOR FOR TELEPHGNE MOUTHPIECES Filed D90. 10, 1923 Patented Aug. 4;, 1925 iii ROBERT LEE iuoonn, or GRAHAM, TEXAS.
SANITARY PROTECTOR FOB, TELEPHONE MQU'IHPIECES,
Application filed December 10, 1923. Serial No. 679,557.
To aZZ wh0m z'tmccy concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT LEE Moonn,
a citizen of the United States, and a resi- I .Sanitary Protector for Telephone Mouthpieces; and I dohereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the'numerals of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to a sanitary protector for telephone mouth pieces.
Since telephones are ordinarily used by a large number of persons, there is always considerable danger of communicable diseases being transmitted by the users proximity to or contact with the transmitter mouth piece. Attempts to eliminate this danger by the use of disinfectants or by various transmitter covers which have been heretofore made, have proven expensive or ineffective.
It is therefore an important object of this invention to provide a sanitary mouth piece cover which obviates the above dis advantages, which may be provided at a minimum of expense and which may be conveniently used for the purpose required.
It is a further important object of this invention to provide a protector of the class described which is particularly adapted for the display of advertising indicia marked thereon.
Other and further important objects of this invention will be apparent from the disclosures in the specification and the accompanying drawings.
The invention (in a preferred form) is shown on the drawings and hereinafter more fully described.
On the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a telephone transmitter provided with a sanitary protector embodying the principles of this invention.
Figure 2 is a plan view of a sheet from which one form of the protector is made.
Figure 3 is a front elevation of the protector.
Figure 4 is an enlarged section with parts in elevation taken substantially along the line 44 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a perspective view showing a .asingle or double sheet of material and, in
modified form of protector in position on a telephone transmitter.
As shown on the drawings:
The protector of this invention which is adapted to be secured over the mouth piece 1 of a usual telephone transmitter 2, is con structed of thin paper or other suitable material and comprises a face portion 3 and bent-back flaps i on each of the vertical edges of said face portion, said flaps i in creasing in width toward the upper end of the face portion 3 and resiliently engaging the outside of the mouth piece 1 thereby holding the face portion 3 over the outer end of said mouth piece and preventing the users mouth from coming in contact therewith.
The protector may be formed either from Figure 2, I have shown a blank from which the protector may be formed from a double sheet, the two portions of this double sheet being folded together along the line 5 and the flaps 4: being subsequently bent backwardly to engage the mouth piece 1 as shown in Figure 4c.
In order to facilitate the transmission of sound waves through the protector, particularly in cases where the double thickness protector is used, a series of apertures may be provided in the face portions 3 as shown at 6 and 7 in Figure 2.
The face portion 3 is ordinarily constructed so that a portion thereof of considerable area depends below the end of the mouth piece 1 and this depending portion is particularly adaptable to have advertising indicia marked thereon such as is indicated by the reference numeral 8.
It will of course be apparent that suitable advertising indicia may be marked on any part of the face portion 3 and, since this indicia is directly within the range of vision of the user and is forceably called to his attention, the space afforded for this purpose is valuable.
In Figure 5, I have shown a slightly modified form of protector wherein a face portion 3 is provided with a rearwardly extending integral flap 9 and a downwardly bent integral bifurcated portion 10 on said flap which engages over the neck of the mouth piece 1 adjacent the transmitter and which holds said face portion 3 over the outer end of said mouth piece.
It will be apparent that in using the protector of this invention, it is only necessary to remove the same from a suitable container which may be placed near the telephonerand sliding movement whereby the flaps 4 or the bifurcated portion 10engage the-outsi de of the mouth piece to hold the face portion 3 over the outer end thereof: After the user is finished talking on the telephone; the protector may be thrown away and a new one.
as will be apparent, may be very econom ically manufactured and, due'to the fact that such'valuable advertising space is afforded thereby, it may be furnished to telephone users at very small expense.
I am aware that numerous details of construction may bevaried without departing from the principles of my invention and I therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted hereon otherwise than necessitated by the prior art. afiix it to the mouth piece 1 by a downwardly I claim as my invention: 7
1. The combination with an outwardly flaring instrumentmouth piece, of trapezoidally shaped protective means covering the outer end'thereof, and rearwardly bent integral means on the protective means folded from the upper to the lower edge of said protective means engaging the mouth piece and holding the protective means in associationtherewith. t
2. The combination with an instrument mouth piece, of protective means covering the outer end thereof comprising two sheets of thin material each of said sheets having a plurality of apertures therethrough, and
rearwardly extending means engaging the outside of the mouth piece and holding the protective means in association therewith.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto sub scribedmy name in'the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ROBERT LEE MooRE.
