Be it known that I, HERBERT ARTHUR AGKERET, a citizen of the United States, re-

siding at Massillon, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertising Cut-Out Devices, of which the following is a specification. v The present invention relates to a cutout device for use in advertising bottled products, being more particularly adapted for the advertising of soft drinks, although with obvious modifications it can be adapted for use in advertising and displaying any kind of a product that is put up in bottles. Among the objects of the invention are to provide a device of this character which can be inexpensively out or stamped from sheet material, such as card-board, and which when applied to a bottle or like container will simulate a human figure or animal straddling the upper end of the bottle and drinking the bottle contents or surveying the same with approval.

One particular design of the cut-out device has been shown and described for illustrative purposes, although it will be understood that various forms of designs can be used and that the cut-out device may represent a boy, girl, or any kind of a human figure, or any kind of an animal that may be adapted for the purpose, the particular design which is used depending upon the character of the goods being advertised and also upon the personal ideas andcaprices of the advertiser.

Figure 1 is a plan view of a cut-out de vice which embodies the invention, showing the same in the fiat form in which it is received for .use.

Figure 2 is a front elevation of the. same cut-out device, showing the same as applied to the neck of a bottle, and

Figure 3 is a side elevation thereof. Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated on all of the views of the drawings by like reference characters.

Referring to the drawing which illustrates one of many possible forms of the invention, the reference character A designates the cut-out device as a unit, and B the out-device is suitably shaped and marked,

so'tha-t it simulates a human being or animal of some kind, and when applied to the upper vend of the bottle the' human being or animal has the appearance of straddling the bottle with its legs and clasping its arms or paws around the neck of the bottle. The particular form of cut-out device which has been illustrated is shaped and marked to simulate a boy, although it will be underi stood that the particular design is immaterial and that the cut-out device may be shaped and marked to simulate any human figure or any animal which might be appropriate.

The numeral 1 designatesthe body portion of the cut-out device, said body portion being provided at the bottom thereof with the legs 2, and having a head portion 3 at the top thereof. Where the device is used upon a bottle containing a soft drink or potable sub stance, a straw 12 or like element may be pictured as extending downwardly from the mouth so that it will have the appearance of entering the neck of the bootle. When the device is applied to the bottle the human figure or animal which is pictured by the design will ,have the appearance of clinging to the neck of the bottle and drinking the contents thereof through the straw 12.

These cut-out devices can be readily cut or stamped from any suitable sheet material such as card-board or sheet metal and can be packed fiat for shipment, thereby enablin them to be inexpensively manufactured and distributed. Inorder to use the same it is merely necessary to deflect the hands forwardly and insert the neck of a bottle between the hands and the body of the device, at the same time causing the crotch between the bowed legs to fit around the tapered upper end of the bottle. The device is easily and quickly app-lied to a bottle, and provides a very effective means for displayin the same and attracting attention thereto, V here the term human figure? is used in the specification and claims it will be understood that this term is to be construed broadly and is mean-t to include any \analogous or equivalent representation, such as the representation of any suitable kind of an animal.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to -secure by Letters Patent is- 1. A put-out device for advertising bottled W products, includin a body portion cut from sheet material an shaped and marked to simulate a human figure, said figure having arm portions which are connected at their inner ends and cut out along their upper and lower edges to provide a transverse strip which can be deflected from the plane of the body portion to permit of the bottle neck being inserted between the strip and body portion, the figure also having cut-out legs which are separated by a crotched portion adapted to fit around the bottle below the portion thereof engaged by the arms, the device being adapted to give the appearance of a figure clinging to the bottle by means of its arms and legs.

2. A cut-out device for advertising bottled products, includin a body portion cut from sheet material an shaped and marked to simulate a human figure, said figure having cut out legs separated by a crotched portion which is adapted to fit around a portion of the bottle and give the legs the appearance of straddling the bottle, the figure also having arm portions connected at their inner ends. by hands and cut out along their upper and lower edges to provide a transverse strip which can be deflected from the plane of the body portion to permit of the bottle neck being inserted between the strip and the body portion, the hands being formed with cut-out thumb portions which project upwardly and are adapted to engage the exterior bead of the bottle neck to assist in holding the device in position upon the bottle.
