AERIAL AND LIKE POST.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonc HEIL, of Lahr, Baden, Germany, a citizen of the German Republic, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Aerial and like Posts, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to aerial and like posts, more particularly for supporting high tension and low tension electric wires. Its object is to effect an improvement in the construction of what may be called twin or double posts, that is to say posts of the kind in which two vertical timbers are coupled with each other to make a single post. The posts have the advantage, over plain onepiece posts, of greater rigidity, and of offering less surface to wind sweeping along the line. Moreover, they are more durable for the reason that the thinner timbers used can be more efiiciently impregnated with preservation substances. On the other hand certain difliculties have heretofore been encountered in coupling together the two members forming the post. WVhere bolts are used, traversing both the members, holes of considerable size are necessary, and these substantially weaken the timber. Moreover, under the bending stresses to which the post is subjected, the bolts are deflected and bear against the fibres in the direction of the grain, so that in course of time holes be come enlarged and assume an elliptical shape. The bolts thus become loose and allow of relative. movement of the two coupled members. The protruding heads and nuts of the bolts are liable to cause inconvenience and injury when. the post is climbed. Similar difflculties occur when the members are coupled by means of ties and dowel pins, which also weaken the timber and are more-costly in time and labour.
According to my invention these disadvantages are removed by. using a flanged coupling plate placed between the two members of the twin post, and screwing or bolting the flanges to the said members.

There may be any desired number of coupling plates between the two post members.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is z- 1. In a twin aerial or like post, the combination of two parallel post members, a flanged coupling plate having a web between said post members and having flanges abutting against said members, and screws fixing said flanges to the post members against which they abut respectively, said screws being oblique to the plane containing the axes of the two post members.
2. In a twin aerial or like post the combination of two parallel post members, a flanged coupling plate having a. webbetween said post members and having flanges abutting against said members, and screws fixing said flanges to the post members against which they abut respectively, said screws being oblique to the plane containing the axes of the two post members, and said flanged coupling plate being confined to the space between two parallel planes tangential to both the post members.
