T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ORDELLIA M. EAST- woon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sylacauga, in the county of Talladega and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing Boards, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to certain improvements in ironing boards and it is an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general characterwherein the board proper when not in use may be employed as a separate article of furniture and more particularly as a hat rack, mirror and towel roller.

Another object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved device of this general character wherein the board proper has associated.therewith supporting legs for maintaining the board in substantially a horizontal position, said supporting legs being engaged with the board in a manner whereby the same may be readily and conveniently separated therefrom when desired.

The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved ironing board whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensivevand otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.

In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure 1 is a view in perspective illustrating an ironing board constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention and in assembly for use in ironing;

Figure 2 is a view illustrating the board proper suspended for use as a separate article of furniture;

Figure 3 is a view partly in section and partly in elevation of the device as illustrated in Figure 1;

Figure 4 is a view in plan of one of the supporting le 's herein employed;

Figure 5 is a view in plan of the second supporting leg herein disclosed.

As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, B denotes the ironing board proper which may be of any preferred dimensions. The board B at predetermined points inwardly of its opposite ends is provided in its under surface with the pockets or depressions 1 and 2. The pocket 1 adjacent to the inner or butt end of the board B is adapted to receive the outer end portion of the reduced extension 3 of a supporting leg 4, said extension 3 being positioned at sub-, stantially the transverse centerof the leg 4 proper whereby the shoulders 5 are pro: vided at opposite sides of said extension 3.

The pocket or recess 2 adjacent to the opposite end of the board B is adapted to re ceive the reduced portion (3 arranged at one end portion of a second supporting leg 7, the ends of the leg 7 at opposite sides of the reduced portion 6 are provided with beveled faces 8 to determine the relative angle be tween the leg 7 and the board B when said leg 7 is in applied position. r

The leg 7 at a predetermined point inwardly of its ends is provided with an opening 9 through which the reduced portion 3 is adapted'to be snugly disposech'the shoulders 5 hereinbefore referred to being in a requisite position to permit the desired assembly of the legs 4 and 7 when 'inapplied position. Disposed transversely through the board B and through the outer extremity of the reduced portion 3 and also through the reduced portion 6 are the headed bolts 10 whereby the legs 4 and 7 are effectively connected to the board B. The bolts 10 are of a length to project beyond a side of the board B to permit the proper engagement therewith of the holding nuts 11. When it is desired to remove the legs 4 and 7 it is only necessary to free the nuts 11 from the bolts 10 and to withdraw said bolts from applied or working position.

The under surface of the board B outwardly of the pocket or recess 2 has suitably secured thereto the substantially U-shaped frame 14 with the base member 15 thereof immediately adjacent the outer end of the board. The side members 17 a desired distance inwardly of their inner or free ends are connected by the intermediate member 18, said member 18 together with the inner portions of the side members 17 and the base member 15 providing a mounting for the mirror 19.

Rotatably supported by and between the inner or free end portions of the side members 17 is a towel roller 20. The inner or butt end of the board B has secured thereto a pair of. outstanding parallel arms 21, said arms having their outer faces substantially flush with the outer or working face of the board B, said arms however being of a thickness considerably less than the thickness of the board B. The arms 21 are provided with the outstanding supporting hooks 22 disposed in a direction towards the under or bottom face of the board B.

Secured to the inner or butt end of the board B at a point midway of the arms 21 is a supporting hook 23 herein disclosed as an eye member.

With the legs a and 7 disengaged from the board B, said board is adapted to be supported on a wall or kindred surface by the supporting member 2 1 with the mirror 19 outwardly disposed so that when the board is not in use for ironing said board may be readily and conveniently employed as a separate article of furniture and in which instance it is adapted to be used as a wall mirror, towel roller, and a hat rack, the hats being adapted to be suspended on the hooks 22. The upwardly disposed butt end of the board B together with the adjacent intermediate member 18 serves as a shelf upon which may be conveniently positioned a comb and brush or other desired articles.

lVhen the device is in assembly for use as an ironing board, the outstanding arms 21 may be if desired employed as a rest or sup port for an iron.

From the foregoing description it is thought to be obivous that an ironing board constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.

I claim 1. In combination, an ironing board provided with pockets in its under surface and adjacent to its opposite ends, supporting legs having end portions engageable within the pockets, members insertible transversely through the board and through the end portions of the legs within the pockets to secure the legs to the board, said members being removable, one of said legs being provided with an opening, and the second leg extending through said opening.

2. In combination, an ironing board provided with pockets in its under surface and adjacent to its opposite ends, supporting legs having end portions engageable within the pockets, members insertible transversely through the board and through the end portions of the legs Within the pockets to secure the legs to the board, said members being removable, one of said legs having slidable interlocking engagement with the other.
