C.-E. MARKS smvom Filed Sept. 5, 1924 YINVENTOR Patented July 28,1925.
UNITED STATES CHARLES E. MARKS, or LOS antennas, CALIFORNIA.
surron'r.
Application filed September 5, 1924. Serial No. 736,108.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, CHARLES E. MARKS, :1 citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to supports and has particular relation to trestles or horses of the character commonly used by mechanics, an object being to provide means whereby the top of a trestle or horse may be adjusted to a desired height.
Another object of the invention is the provision of means which may be applied to an ordinary trestle or horse to accomplish the purpose above stated.
Another object of the invention is the provision of means whereby theheight of a trestle or horse may be adjusted which is simple in construction, may be quickly and easily operated to obtain the required adjustment and which when adjusted will remain in position until purposely changed.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device or attachment of the above character which is secured to the trestle in such manner as to permit of its ready removal so that if desired the trestle or horse may be used in the ordinary way.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illus- 7 trated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 is an end view of a trestle or horse with the invention applied.
Figure 2 is aside elevation showing one end of the trestle or horse.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference charac- 7 ter 10 indicates the top or horizontal beam of the trestle or horse which is supported at each end by means of legs 11, the upper ends of which are secured to the beam 10 while the lower ends of these legs are spaced apart by means of spacing arms 12. The
trestle shown is of the usual construction, be-
ing adapted for plasterers or bricklayers.
The invention as disclosed includes a tubular member or guide 13, one of which is positioned at each end of the beam 10 with its lower end extending through an opening 14 provided in the spacing arm 12.
The upper end of the tubular member 13 has secured thereon one end of an arm 15, the latter being provided with an opening for the passage of this end of the tubular member. The arm 15 is substantially L-shaped and its opposite outer end 16 is spaced from and substantially parallel with the tubular member 13 so that the device may be engaged over the end of the beam 10 with the arm upon one side of the beam and the tubular member upon the opposite side so that the device is clamped upon the end of the beam.,
Slidable within the tubular member 13 is a standard 17 which is provided with spaced openings 18. The standard 17 is also tubular and provides at its upper end for the reception of an arm 18 which extends from the bottom of a substantially U-shaped member 19. The position of the standard 17 within the tubular member 13 is adjusted by means of a pin or spike 20 which is adapted to pass through one of the openings 18 in the standard 17 and'rest upon a collar 21 which is carried at the inner end of the arm 15 and which is secured to the tubular member or guide 13.
This construction is duplicated at each end of the trestle or horse and the U-shaped members 19 are adapted to receive the opposite ends of a supplemental beam 22 which is arranged parallel with the beam 10 and which may through the medium just described be vertically adjusted so as to regulate the height of the trestle or horse.
By mounting the U-shaped members in the manner shown and described, the supplemental beams may be positioned at right angles to as well as parallel with the beams 10. with the use of two or more trestles.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention what is claimed is The combination with a trestle having .supporting legs at each end thereof and a horizontal beam connecting the tops of the legs, of a vertically disposed tubular member positioned at each end of the beam,
means connecting the legs and-engaging the lower ends of the tubular members, substantially L-shaped arms having openings in one end thereof for the passage of the tubular members, the opposite ends of said arms being spaced from and parallel With the tubular members to receive and engage over the beam, a supplemental beam positioned above the first mentioned beam and meansengaging the supplemental beam and adjustably positioned Within the tubular members for adjustably supporting said supplemental beam.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
CHARLES E. MARKS.
