Description

July 14, 1925.
G. J; DORSCHEL FLUID RESERVE SUPPLY DEVICE Filed March 25, 1922 l/VVE/VTOR BY #4 a AWORN Y Patented Jdly 14, 1925.
UNITED sTA Es GEORGE J. DORSCHEL, OF CAMDEN, NEW JERSEY.
FUEL-RESERVE-SUPPLY DEVICE.
Application filed March 25, 1922. Serial No. 546,801.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE J. Donsonnn, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Camden, in the county of Camden and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Fuel-Reserve-Supply Device, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is the providing of means for showing the height of gasoline in a gasoline tank.
A further object of my invention is the limiting the draught from a gasoline tank to a pre-determined point exhibited by a gauge, then providing means for lowering said point.
A further object of my invention is the providing of an improved warning means when gasoline is low in a supply tank.
A further object of my invention is an improved graduated sight gauge showing height of gasoline in a supply tank above a stop means which may open a further supply from said tank.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view my invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, but it is understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawings of the herein described embodiment of my invention, Fig. 1 is an enlarged View of my device in elevation; Fig. 2 is a view taken at right angles to thatshown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken through 33 of Figure 2. Figure 4: is a sectional view taken through %-1 of Figure 8, and Fig. 5 is a plan view of that shown in Fig. 1.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
1 is the gasoline tank of an automobile. 2 is the supply line in which my device is inserted at such a point as to show the various heights of gasoline in the tank de sired, and so that retainer 3 extends to such a height as to give the necessary reserve gasoline in the tank requiring special release.
cured in the supply line and in which is the retainer 3, preferably made integral therewith. 5 is a graduated'metal tube secured to supporting casing 4 and in which is glass tube 12.
Retainer 3 extends to each sideof the supporting casing 4, as shown in Figure 5 and near its lower extremity forms a connecting valve between the two arms of the T of casing 41: by'means of openings 6 and plug valve 7. Plug valve 7 having a long stem 8 extending through the gauge to the top and provided with ball handle 9.
At the top end of metal tube 5 is secured lugs 10. In long handle 8 near its top is supporting pin 11, which may be raised up and by rotating long stem 8 may rest upon the top of lugs 10, thus opening valve 7 and allowing the gasoline to flow directly through openings 6.
12 is a glass tube secured within metal tube 5, the interior of which is in communication with the interior of supporting casing. 4 and through which long stem 8 cperates.
The operation of my invention is as follows The glass tube 12 being installed as shown in Fig. 1, the height of the gasoline in tank 1. will show in glass tube 12 if such height is within the working range of the said glass tube.
lVhen the gasoline in tank 1 lowers to the level of the top of retainer 3 it will cease to flow over the same when valve 7 is closed, thus giving a warning that a certain level in the tank is reached by the gasoline.
By opening valve 7 by means of long handle 8 retainer 3 is by-passed through openings 6 and the remainder of the gasoline in tank 1 may be drawn out.
Having thus described my invention what I claim: and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A casing connected in a supply line, open at its top, having a partition arranged transversely thereof, said partition terminating below the upper open end of said at is the T supporting casing which is secasing, and having a vertical bore therein and openings affording communication between said bore and the interior of said casing on the opposite sides of said partition, a rod extending from the top of said casing to the bottom of said bore and operable to permit fluid passing through said casing to GEORGE J. DORSCHEL.
Vitnesses FRANK SPIEGEL,
CHAS. R. OLDEN.
