Description
July 14, 1925.
5. Each E Patented July 14, 1925.
JOSEPH B. FISCHER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
FERMENTATION BUNG.
Application filed December 8, 1923. Serial No. 679,322.
To all w ham it may concern Be it known that I, Josnrrr B. FIsoHER,
I a citizen of the United States of America,
and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Fermentation Bungs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the type of fer mentation bung-s which constitutes the subject matter of the Fischer Patent No. 1,477;
552, of December, 1923, and has for its ob-' To provide a structural formation and combination of parts in the reversible type of bungs or plugs of the aforesaid patent, whereby a reflux of gas or air, in either po sition of the bung is prevented in an effective and economical manner, all as will hereinafter more fully appear.
In the accompanying drawing:
Fig. 1, is an axial section of a bung or plug having the present improvement applied.
As in the aforesaid patent, the bung or plug 1 comprises a pair of truncated cone portions 2 and 3, of different diameters, connected base to base, and preferably with the truncated end of the portion 3 of a slightly less diameter than the diameter of the base of the portion 2. And as in such former construction, the bung or plug 1 is formed with a longitudinal passage 4, extending from end to end, as shown.
In the present improvement thepassage 4 isof an equal diameter throughout, and at its respective ends is provided with annular bushings 5 and 6, which extend a distance into said passage with their inner ends in separated relation to provide seats for a spherical valve 7 which in either position of the bung or plug is adapted to seat itself upon the bushing which is lowermost to pre vent a reflux of the gases passing out through the bung.
lVith the described construction the bore of the bushing 5 or 6, which is uppermost is adapted to receive one legof the return bend tube 8, which carries the transparent sealing vessel described in the aforesaid patent.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a fermentation bung of the type described, a head or plug formed with-a longitudinal passage, annular bushings fitted to the respective ends of said passage with their inner ends in separated relation, and a spherical valve arranged between said bushing ends and adapted to seat itself on one or the other of said ends in the dilferent positions of the bung.
2. In a fermentation bung of the type described, a reversible head or plug formed by a pair of truncated cone portion of different sizes, connected together base to base and formed with a longitudinal passage, an nular bushings fitted to the respective ends of said passage with their inner ends in separated relation, and a spherical valve arranged between said bushing ends and adapted to seat itself on one or the other of said ends in the different positions of the bung. I
Signed at Chicago, Illinois, this 30th day of November, 1923. v
' JOSEPH B. FISCHER.
