T. CLEMETSON BUCKLE Filed 'Aug. 9 1924 Patented July 7, 1925.
UNITED STATES TOBIAS CLEMETSON, OF DULUTH, MINNESOTA.
BUCKLE.
Application filed August 9, 1924.
'1 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Tomas CLnMErsoN, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Duluth, county of St. Louis, and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improve merits in Buckles, of which the following is a full and clear specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple device for engaging and locking the free end of a strap after it is pulled taut, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawing anneXed Fig. 1 is a perspective view of awell known type of buckle supplied with my invention;
Figs. 2, 3 and 4 are diiferent views of the same buckle;
Figs. 5 and 6 are perspective views of other types of buckles with my invention applied thereto.
The type of buckle shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3 and t consists of side-bars 10, a rear-bar 11, a front-bar 12, and a middle cross-bar 13 to which latter the strap 14 is attached in the usual manner. Mounted upon the sidebars 10, at a point between the bars 1 and 13, is a wire rod or bar 15 which lies upon the top faces of the bars 10 and has its ends bent downwardly and inwardly to form eyes 16 which surround the sidebars 10. The extreme ends of the bars 15, after forming the loops 16, are bent upwardly and forwardly over the top of the bar proper 15, these forwardly-extending extremities being sharpened to thereby con- Serial No. 731,137.
stitute tongues 17. This strap-locking device is thus slidably and pivotally mounted upon the side-bars 10. In attaching the free end of the strap, it is passed upwardly through the space between the bars 12 and 15, the impinging of the strap against the pointed tongues 17 tilting the tongues rearwardly and also bodily sliding the bar 15 backwardly a slight distance; then, when the free end of the strap is pulled-on, the pointed tongues 17 tilt forwardly against the strap so as to be in position to enter the same when the strap is loosened or folded over backwardly and slipped under the bar 11, as usual.
In Fig. 5, I show my strap-locking device applied to a snap-hook type of buckle; and in Fig. 6, I show my locking device ap plied to still another type of buckle; it is therefore obvious that my invention is applicable to various types of buckles and strap-holding appliances.
What I claim is:
In combination with a buckle-frame, a locking-bar consisting of a wire lying upon the upper faces of the side-bars of the frame and having its ends bent downwardly and inwardly to form eyes which loosely engage said side-bars of the frame, the two extremities of the wire being bent upwardly and forwardly and provided with pointed ends, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto my signature.
TOBIAS CLERIETSON.
