Be it known that I, FRANK Sonnernn, a citizen of the United States, and resident of est Bend, in the county of lVashington and State of lVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

In th device a band is provided adapted to be rested against the back of the wearer, near the waist and having its ends adjustably secured to the adjustable ends of a strap which extends upwardly in front of the wearer in parallel stretches and lies in back of the neck. At the points of juncture of the band and strap a pair of flexible members are secured each having a noose at its free end adapted to be looped about the fore legs of a calf immediately above the hoofs.

The primary object of the invention is the facility of delivery. It permits the wearer to brace his feet against the cow and exert a strong pull rearwardly and downwardly following the natural curved movement of the calf. It operates efiectively both when the cow stands and when she lies down. It is readily attachable to the calf and detachable therefrom.

A further object is adjustability. It may be altered readily to correspond to a different height and size of the cow and of the wearer.

With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts substantially as hereinafter described and more particularly defined by the appended claim, it being understood that such changes in the precise embodiment of the herein disclosed invention may be made as come within the scope of the claim.

Band is secured at its ends to metallic loops 11, 11 by means of straps 12, 12 rove therethrough and adjustable by means of buckles. Secured to the loops and upwardly extending therefrom are a second pair of straps 14, 14 carrying buckles 15, 15' to which shoulder strap 16 is adjustably secured at its ends. Hope 17 is detachably secured at one end to loop 11 by means of harness snap 18 and at its other end is formed into a noose 19. Rope 17' has a similar snap 18 and noose 19.

Band 10 is worn in the back slightly below the waist and the shoulder strap extends upwardly over the shoulders and across the back of the neck. After delivery begins the nooses are slipped on the fore legs of the calf, one above each hoof. The operator may then throw his weight against the band and tension the ropes, thus moving the calf rearwardly. As the ropes are downwardly inclined, the animal is moved in the natural path of travel-a rearward and downward curve. The fact that the harness is open in front facilitates putting it on. The adjustability of shoulder strap 16 and straps 12, 12' provides means of alteration to suit persons of various sizes. Snaps 1.8, 18 make detachability convenient. The device may be used both when the cow is lying and when she is standing.

A back strap 20 is provided formed into a loop 21 at its upper end, slidable on shoulder strap 16. Its lower end is rove through a metallic loop 22 secured to band 10 by strap 23. A buckle 24: on the lower end of the back strap makes possible the adjustment thereof, whereby its length may be varied, so that the band 10 may be positioned at a height whercat the operator is permitted to work effectively. The band 10 cannot fall down in the rear, as it is supported in proper position.

I claim:

A harness for aiding in delivering calves comprising a relatively broad band adapted to be passed around the back of an operator,

said band terminating in eyelets, flexible members extending from said eyelets and having nooses in their ends adapted to be attached to the fore feet of the calf to be delivered, a shoulder strap having its ends attached to the said eyelets and adapted to be positioned over the shoulders of the operator, and a strap extending upwardly from the rear central portion of said broad band to the central portion of said shoulder strap.
