To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMES M. HORNE, of Lawrence, in the county of Essex and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a Sash Holder or Supporter, of which the following is a specication: f Y

The object ofmy'invention is to furnish a cheap and durable friction holder or support for window-sash, which shall bel simple in its construction, easy and simple in its application, and effective for the purpose herein set forth. My invention consists in applying to the sash of a window or screen anelasticrubber spring or cushion, which is faced with a metallic armor-plate, fllited to receive a rod or track, which rod or track is fastened to the jainb of the window. The pressure of the spring or cushion upon the track or rod, and upon the jarnb of a window, holds the sash at any desired elevation, each in combination with the other, as hereinafter more fully described.

In the drawings, A isthe rubber spring; B, the metallic armor or plate, iluted so as to track on the rod G, as shown in Fig. 5; C, the metal rod or track, which is attached to the jamb of a window, and forms a guide for the armor-faced spring B.

Inl the application of my invention the sash is mortised or recessed to receive the spring` or cushion A and its fluted armor-plate B, the spring being allowed to protrude therefrom sufficiently to hold thesash by its lateral pressure upon the track-rod C, which is securely attached to the window-jamb.

To use my invention it is only necessary to raise or lower the sash when desired to any convenient' point, when`V the friction of the sash, caused by the lateral pressure of the spring, securely holds it at any desired point.

I am aware that it is not new to apply fric tion-springs to a sash, or to use rubber cushions as springs, and I make no claim, broadly, thereto; but I am not^ awareV that a rubber cushion or spring provided 'with a metallic armor or plate, fluted as above, and guide or friction rods, have been in use previous to my invention, and constructed for the purpose and under circumstances substantially as hereinbefore described and set forth therefore,

What I claim as. my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The elastic rubber spring or cushion A,

faced with the uted armor-plate D, in comi bination with the guide rod or track C, attached, one to the sash, the other to the jamb, in such manner that the fluted armor-plate e11- gages with and slides upon the rod, all substantially as describedfand shown, for the purposev set forth.
