Description

DUMPING BODY FOR TRUCKS'AND wAGoNs Filed Feb, s. 192s lll \ I I 22 le I ZlozzzbJF/o'od Patented June 30, 1925. l
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS P. WOOD, OF NISLAND, SOUTH DAKOTA.
DUMPTNG BODY ron TRUCKS AND tWAGroNs.
Application led February 3, 1925. Serial No. 6,643.
for trucks, and wagons and it has for itsv object to provide a device of this character adapted to be readily tipped to either side in such manner as to discharge its load upon either side of the line oftravel of the vehicle.
Further vobjects and advantages of the invention will be set forth in the detailed description whichfollows:
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a wagon construct-ed in accordance with the invention, Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view, and i Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view showing the body tipped to the right.
Like numerals designate corresponding parts in all of the figures of the drawing:
The body proper comprises sills 5, bottom 6 and sides 7 and 8, the latter being hingedly connected to the sills at 9 and being adapt,- ed to swing downwardly in the manner illustrated" at the right hand side of Figure 3. This hinging is effected bypassing rods or pins 10 through the eyes of hinges 11 that are secured to the sides 7 and 8 and sills 5. Bolsters 12 at the front andrear ends of the body serve to support the body from a pivot rod 13, which extends from end to end of thestructure and is mounted in bearings or straps 14, which straps are in turn supported upon the cross bars 15 of a running gear 16. Supporting panels 17 and 18V are hingedly mountedjupon the side rails of the running gear 16, by hinges '19 and when these panels are Vswung upwardly tothe position illustrated in Figure 2, their posts-17d, 18a underlie the sills of the body and prevent tipping ofthe body in either direction. However, if one of these sets of panels be swung downwardlyto the position illustrated in Figure 3, the wagon body may tip in that direction,
as indicated in said Figure 3. The movement of the panels to dumping position is effected by means of rods 20, which project at right angles from horizontal rods 21, the f latter being provided with operating handles 22. When an operating handle' 22 is moved,v
its rod 21 is rocked in its bearings 28 and the rods 20-which are passed through eyes 24 of the panels, throw the panels outwardly and downwardly. i
It is to `be understood that the inventionl is not limited to the precise construction set forth but that it includes within its purview kwhatever changes fairly come within either the. terms or the spirit of the appended claim. f l Having described my invention what I claim is: l
In a device ofthe character described the combination with a running gear consisting of longitudinally extending side rails and transverse end rails, of supports hingedly connected to'the longitudinally extending side rails, a horizontall operating rod, rods carried by the horizontal operating rod and projecting substantially at right angles thereto, eyes carried by the supports through which the last named rods project and in which. said last named rods may move when the supports are swung outwardly and downwardly byv rocking the horizontal operating rod, a body pivoted centrally and longitudinally upon cross bars of the running gear, and hinged sides for said body.
In testimony whereof he affixes his signature in the presence of two witnesses.
LOUIS P. WOODY Witnesses: f i GEORGE W. MALCOLM,
GEORGE C. JOHNSON.
