Be it known that I, CARL H. Horrs'rn'r'rnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
The stove is particularly designed with relation to one utilizing radiants which extend upwardly from the burner and which are heated from the burner flames. lVith these stoves it is desirable to forni a backing that will both radiate the heat and also protect the rear of the stove. I have found that this may be accomplished by ,using heavy smooth asbestos board which is held in place by a metal support protecting the back by placing the support in front of the back of the stove.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing as follows Fig. 1 is a front elevation of the stove.

The stove is formed with the sides 1 bent forwardly .from a back 2, angle irons 1a stiffeniug the corners. A top 3 is arranged over the` sides and back. The burner 4t has rearwardly projecting lugs 5 which engage the back 2 and screws 6 extend through the back into the projections securing the burner in place. The usual mixer 7 is arranged on a pipe extending from the burner through the side 1. Radiants S rest on the burner, jet openings 9 opening into the radiante.
A metal back 10 is arranged to the rear of the burner projections 5 extending through this back so as to support it. The bottom ofthe back is bent rearwardly and upwardly at 11 forming a closure along the bottom and to the rear and downwardly at the top forming a closure at 12. The ends of the metal back have the forward extensions 13 projecting forwardly at the sides of the end radiants and the side plates lllof the stove face are secured to these extensions 13. Front plates 16 are provided over the ends of the sides 14 and the sides 1 of the stove.
A facing 17 is arranged on the support 10 immediately tothe rear of the radiants. This facing is formed of asbestos board, pre- 1921. Serial No. 481,797.
board is bent forwardly at 18 along the extensions 13 and the extensions 13 are crimped over the edge of the board 18 and 19, thus securing the board in place and finishing the edge.
It will be noted that the metal back extends downwardly along the rear face of the burner forming an efficient support for the burner, the asbestos board facing terminating at the upper face ofthe burner thus bringing it into proper relation withV the radiants and strengthening the structure.
That I claim as new is 1. In a stove, the combination of a burner; radiants extending upwardly from the burner; and a backing at the rear of the radiants comprising a metal back having a facing of asbestos board, the back extending forwardly at the sides of ythe end radiants and theV board extending forwardly along the forwardly extending portion of the back.
2. In a stove, the combination `of a burner; radiants extending upwardly from the burner; and a backing at the rear of the radiants comprising a metal back having a facing of asbestos board,rthe side edges of the metal back extending around and enclosing the edge of the facing. l
