The magazine or feeder of cigarettes illustrated in Fig. 9 comprises a casing 39 above the bottom of whiclrat opposite sides are arranged two groups of verticalpartltions- 40 and 41 separated by a chamber 42'which is closed at the upper part and at the side and opened at its ends, said artitions terminatmg at .a short distance om the bottom of the casing to form spaces 43 and 44 arranged on different horizontal planesthrough which the boards 26 and 27 fixed to the sliding block 24 can pass. Said plunger 25 being arranged to pass through the c amber 42. The rear wall of conduit 67 has an extension at its upper end which is inclined and one which is a casing 83 which has openings 84, saidcasing forming avacuum chamber which is in communication with a tube 85 that leads to a suction pump or other similar device, not shown. The folder is formed by a fixed partand a movable part. Thefixed'part comprises a bottom plate 98 arranged on table 3 and being of double T shape and provided with a removable cover 99 of the same shape, said parts being separated by the blocks 100 at the front end to which is fixed an inner rounded claw 101 constituting a guide for bending or folding the edges of the closed endof the wrapper by means of a screw 102 passing through corresponding groovesin lid 99 and serves for approaching or separating from each other the blocks 100 and at its near ends by blocks 103 where there .are fixed inner pieces; 104 presenting .a curved ascending surface for bending up wardly the side edges of a blank by means of a screw 105 passing through slots 106 on lip 99 and which serves toapproach or separate from each other said blocks. On the sides of the central branch of the cover are fixed angular. guiding plates 108 one of whose branches bear on the upper face of lid 99 and the other branch pends downwards, said plates being secured to the lid by means of screws 109 operating through slots 110 which arrangement permits the approaching or separation of-said plates ac cording to the size of the wrapper, a part of them constituting the side wings 1.07 vertical at their rear portion and raised at its fore end forming lugs 107' for bending downwards the upper side edges of the blanks.
On the folder is mounted the paster which comprises two rollers 111 and 112 which rotate towards each other supporting frames 113'. The movable part of the folder comprises a tube of rectangi'llar' section formed bya piece 122 constituting the bottom and side the rear end of the machine supporting frame. The side folds at the open'head of the wrapper are formed by two opposite fingers 130 arranged to slide in brackets 103 fixed on the opposite end of frame 2 and to move into and out of the part of the wrapper, said fingers being provided with trunnions 131 which pass through horizontal slots 132 in said end of frame 2 and enterrespectively by a horizontal spring 136 which is active to approach them. When the block 235comes near the magazine 39 the I pushing plunger 25 enters into the central chamber 42 and the boards 26 and 27 enter into the spaces 43 and 44 and cause the cigarettes occupying these spaces to pass to the cases 50 and 51 of the compressor. When the boards26 and 27 draw back new cigarettes fall in the spaces 43 and 44 this. fall aiding the vibratory motion imparted to the frame 46 by lever 47 which motion shakes laterally the cigarettes in the case. When the cigarettes are in the parts 50 and 51 of the compressor, the cams 29 and 34 of shafts 4 and 5 actuate the levers and 61 thus pushing the compressing plungers 58 and 59 inwardly in the casings 50 and 51 pushing the cigarettes 160 pressing them in the center above and below the horizontal partition thus forming two layers of cigarettes separated by this partition.
When the cigarettes are in this position the plunger 25 advances in another stroke and pushes the cigarettes by their end call"- in them to pass to the conduit 66 and at thls time the cams 29 and 34elfect the backward stroke of the plungers 58 and 59 to give way for the new cigarettes that are being pushed by the boards 26 and 27 in the same stroke of plunger 25.
During that revolution in the cam 35 which actuatesthe vertical lever connected to the blank feeder 90 inclines the same forward and causes the suction case 33 in which a vacuum has been created to catch a blank and when the blank feeder 90 returns to its initial position owing to the movement of the cam operating the same, the cam 30 actuating the valve 83, the cut-off, the vacuum and the blank 159 falls in the conduit 67. At the end of its fall, the sheets 7O actuated by the stems 71 operating the heads 75 at the ends of bars 76 actuated by cams 30 and 35 maintain the blank in a vertical position so that there may be projects at eachside of conduit 66 portions of exactly the same size so that on passing the. two layers of compremd. cigarettes through the conduit 67 pushed by plunger 25 cause the blank 159 to be folded at its middle portion as shown in Fig. 7 of the drawings, causing-same to enter in the folder and at the same time of "entering betweenthe bottom and cover thereof the rounded claws 101 form the side folds of the closed ends of the wrapper as illustrated in Fig. 21. The package continues advancing and the side lugs 107' and wings 107 fold the upper side edges of the blank downwards that were extending as illustrated in Fig. 23 at this moment when passing the lower side edges of the blank in extended'position' beneath the wheels 113 which receive the gum or paste from the pester by contact with roller 112, they take the paste from said wheel; on reaching the lower side edges of the blank in front of the inner projections 104 of its ascending curved periphery they fold upward the lower side flanges of the blank as shown in 24, the same being pasted to the upper side edges when the package enters the outlet tube 122, at which immediate moment, that is, when the package is wholly inside the tube having only out the end edges of the open head of the blank, the side fingers 130v operatedby cams 31 land 37 are moved towards eacn other, the spring 136 approaches the upper arms of levers 133 and 134 connected to said fingers 130 which fold inwardly the side edges of the open end of the wrapper as illustrated in Fig. 25, the fingers 130 then immediately withdraw through the continued action of cams 31 and 37. In this position of the package the small movable roller 144 is in contact with roller 111 of the paster and lugs 129 of plate 127 bear against the cover or lid 99 of the folder. As soon as the fingers 130 draw back, the sliding plate 125 is raised between the guides of the stationary plate 126 and tube 122 is raised carrying along the package with the end edges of the wrapper blank 159 extended and also elevating the plate'127,"the free end of which, being unsupported, will drop the plate 127 thus it will bend downwards the upper end edge of the blank as shown in Fi 26, which will be kept in that position whi e the vertical bar 137 is held upward by theaction imparted by cam 38 to the small edges being thus pasted and the wrapper is illlfillldlng a bottom, a lid, laterally adjust-,
a e per slde edges of the lank or wrapper, ad 2 justable rear and front guides peace for thus finished, and the wrapper in another stroke of the plunger is pushed out of tube 122 by the next following wrapper, and is then introduced in the drying case 152 where it will be readily dried in a few moments, coming out finally therefrom by the pushing of the next following wrapper.
Although it has been illustrated a blank feeder having motion with respect to a blank extracting device, it is obvious that in the reverse the blank extracting device could be rovided with movement and the blank eeder kept without motion by means of a simple variation of the constructions which does not affect the substantialidea of, the invention. I Some other similar variations can be introduced without departing from the funda mental idea of the invention, and accordingly I do not limit myself to the construction described, but would haveit understood that such changes may be made within the scope of the appended claims.

1. In a wrapping machine, folding means 'des for foldin downwardly the upforming the Side folds of the closed head of the blank and for folding up the lower side edges thereof, means to fold inwardly the side edges of theopen head of the blank, a ductarranged at the discharge end of the folding device and mounted for movement into and out of line with the path of the wrapped article, means in said duct for folding down the upper portion of the open end of the blank and to hold the same in -folded position while the duct is out of line with said path, means for-applying paste'to the outer face of the lower edge of such end of the blank and means to complete the closing and pasting of the open end of the blank when said duct returns into alinement with said path. v

In a wrapping machine, folding means including able gui es for foldingdownwardly the upduct arranged atthe discharge end of the folding device and mounted for movement a bottom, a lid, laterally adjust l per side edges of the blank or wrapper, ad- 'justable rear and front guides pieces for into and out of line with the path of the wrapped article, means in said duct for folding down the upper portion of the open end of the blank and to hold thesame in folded position while the duct is out of line:
with said path and comprising an element pivotally mounted on said duct and movable to open.,positio n by contact with said folding device when sald duct is in line with said folding device, means for applying paste to the outer face of the lower edge of'such end of the blank and means to complete the closing and pasting of the open end of the blank when said duct returns into alinement with said path.
