may be readily and easily actuated, the 010- sure being so arranged as to prevent the same from becoming accidentally lost from the tube when the latter is in use.
A further object of the invention is to provide a paste tube of the above mentioned character, wherein the closure for the discharge outlet thereof is adapted for swinging movement over the discharge outlet, means being provided for securing the closure in a closed position.
A further object of the invention is to provide a paste tube of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable and furthermore adapted for the purposes for which it is designated.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the same:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a paste tube embodying my invention, and
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof showing the closure for the discharge outlet in an open position.
In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates a. collapsible paste tube which is adapted to contain tooth paste, shaving cream or any other similar paste-like substance which may be put up in collapsible tubes and one end thereof is reduced as illustrated at 2 and is provided with a discharge outlet 3, the purpose of which is well known in the art. Ordinarily the collapsible tubes now on the market are provided with threaded reduced neck portions which form the outlet whereby the paste in the tube may be dispensed therefrom and a threaded cap is associated with the neck portion for normally keeping the outlet closed and preventing the discharge of the contents from the tube. It is often experienced that in using a collapsible tube of the character above described, the screw cap when removed will often become misplaced and consequently the collapsible tube is left without a closure for the outlet there of thus resulting in the spoiling of the contents of the tube as Well as an unnecessary loss of the same. The present invention contemplates providing a closure for the outlet of the collapsible tube which will at all times be carried by the tube and may be readily moved to an open or closed position as the case may be without any possibility of the parts becoming lost.
The closure in the present instance comprises a plate t which is pivoted at 5 on the reduced end 2 of the collapsible tube 1 and an extension 6 is provided on the plate 4.- and terminates in the upturned portion 7 which forms a handle or the like for permitting the swinging movement of the plate a with respect to the outlet opening 3 in the manner as is obvious from the construction illustrated. A spring catch or hook such as illustrated at 8 is carried by the reduced end 2 of the tube 1 adjacent the outlet opening 3 and is adapted to receive the extension 6 of the plate 4: when the latter is in. a
closed'position over the outlet 3 whereby the closure is secured in a closed position over the outlet, thus preventing any possibility of the contents of the tube being accidentally discharged therefrom.
When it is desired to obtain the paste from the tube, it is only necessary to move the plate 4 to an open osition through the medium of the handle whereby the plate is swung out of engagement with the outlet 3 and by squeezing the closed end of the tube the contents thereof will be emitted through the outlet 3. The simplicity in which my device is constructed enables the same to be manufactured at a very low cost and will save considerable time in uncovering the outlet of the paste tube when it is desired to use the same.
While I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scopeof the appended claim. c
Having thus described the invention, What 5 I claim is 1- A paste tube terminating in an end having an annular beveled portion and a flat portion in the annular beveled portion, said flat portion provided with an opening, a
10 flat closure pivoted to the flat portion of the end of the tube so as to be in a plane parallel thereto for closing the opening and provided with a handle adapted to extend angularly therefrom for abuttin the beveled portion when said closure is disposed over the flat portion, and a springmember fixed to the beveled portion for engaging the helidle and holding the closure over the flat portion.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JOHN I. HILL.
