PAPER CLIP Filed Oct. 1925 Fatented June 23, 1925.
KENITED STATES PATENT @FF-ICE.
ORAMEL ERNEST HIBBARD, OF GREENWICH, OHIO.
PAPER our.
Application filed October 26, 1923. Serial No. 670,925.-
To all whom it concern:
Be it known that ORAMEL E. HTBBARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Greenwich, in the county of Huron and State of Ohio, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper Clips, of which the following is a specification. This invention has reference to paper fasteners and provides an improved fastener presenting means for pinning together two or more papers in a firm and secure manner and without causing any undue mutilation or destruction of the papers. i
A further and additional object is to provide a paper fastener including a fastening pin and a guide between which the papers are adapted to be clamped, the said guide being provided with socket means for receiving the pointed end of the pin.
Various other objects and advantages of the invention may become apparent from the following disclosure.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a View disclosing the inanner of applying the invention in practice,
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the proposed paper fastener,
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken along line 3-3 of Figure 1, and
Figure 4 is an end elevation of the structure shown in Figure 3.
In constructing the improved fastener, the same is preferably formed of two parts, namely, a fastening pin and a guide therefor. The pin, indicated at 10, is preferably formed of broom wire presenting an elongated shank having pointed end 11 and a flat head 12.
The guide may be constructed of sheet metal and consists of a flat elongated strip of narrow width, as indicated at 13 bent upwardly at the end 14 and provided with an eye 15 of suitable diameter to permit the shank of the pin to pass easily therethru. At its opposite end, the strip is provided with turned up portions 16 and 17 presenting a tubular sleeve or socket for the reception of the pointed end of the pin, as
shown in Figure 1. In practice, the papers 18 and 19 to be fastened together are placed against guide 13 which is slightly arched to present inclined sides, as shown in Figure 3, so as to permit the formation of a slight depression in the papers, as indicated at 20.
It will thus be seen that the invention provides a paper fastener of simple construction and which can be readily applied A paper fastener consisting of a fastening in and a sheet metal guide arched to provide inclined sides permitting the formation of a slight depression in the papers to be fastened, the said guide having an upturned portion at one end provided with a central opening to receive the shankof the fastenmg pin and having portions 'at its opposite end turned inwardly to provide a tubular sleeve for the reception of the point of the said pin.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signa ture.
O. ERNEST HIBBARD.
