To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, AUGUST MonTnnsnN, acitizen of the United; States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Musicallnstruments Supports, of which the following is a specification. 7
This invention relates to improvements in musical-instruments supports, and. particularly to Saxophones. The object of the invention is to provide a support or holder of this class .with means for adjustably supporting and holding an instrument in connection therewith. A further object being to provide a support or holder of this class, which is composed of a plurality of movable and adjustably connected parts whereby the device can be adjusted to an operative position and held in this position.
This device is of particular. value, to the player who is obliged to usetwo ormore instruments during the playing ofiselec tions where the change of instruments is required to be made quickly so as not to interfere with the work of the play.
Another object being to provide a device which is easily knocked down for transportation, and by reason of its construction may be. carried within the saxophone case in addition to the instrument.
Vith. the foregoing objects in view and others to be mentioned hereinafter, this .invention presents aQnovelconstruction, combination and arrangements of parts as described hereinand claimed, and as illustrated. in, the accompanying drawings, wherein,

As disclosed in the accompanying drawings I provide a base 1, having a centrally disposed securing socket 2, and a plurality of laterally directed radiating. arms 3,, of varying lengths, underneath said arms, and near their outer ends, ball casters 4 are provided. The adjustable upright standard comprises a tubular member 5, removably mounted into the socket 2, and a tubular member 6, which .istelescopically disposed in the member 5, and may be extended or lowered. as may be required, being secured in different positionsof adjustment by a thumb set screw 7 in the head 8. A thumb set screw 9 is screw seated in the base socket to hold the member 5 fromrotating and to. hold said member rigid with the base. The member 6' has on its upper end, and integral therewith an off-set 10, of circular contour, bifurcated as shown on Fig. 4, and arranged to receive the clamping device, to be hereinafter described. The surface edges of this off-set 10 being beveled as shown at 11.
A material part of-the present invention involves the positioning, and means for attaching the instrument in operative position on the device, and comprises, a detail construction as follows A holding bracket piece 12, having an angularly disposed shank 13 integral therewith. The shank 13 is, inwardly threaded and havingits outer portion reduced as at 14 providing an abutment shoulder, at'its point of junction with a clampingshoe, to be presently described; The convex-faced clanilping shoes and 16, centrally orificed, are Shaped to correspond with the form of surface of the ofi -set 10, against which they hear. The clamping shoe 15, its orificefitling over the reduced portion 1 1- of the shank 13, has itsouter surface bearing against the abovedescribedabutment shoulder, while its inner surface bears; against the beveled peripheries of the oft-set 10. The clamping action is createdt-hrough the medium of a clamping bolt 1?, having a handle ot ccmventional torm. designated by 18. The said bolt passing through the orilice ot' the shoe 16 and is threaded into the shank 123 of the bracket piece 12.
The stem of the handle 18 also providing an abutment shoulder at its point oil junc tion with the clamping shoe 16.
In the described construction the clamp ing device, illustrated in Fig. is disposed within the bifurcated oil-set ll), as illustrated in Fig. 3, with the holding stress of the shoes 15, 16, exerted at their inner faces against the surface edges of the circular shaped oft-set 10, thus by a turning ot the. handle 18, the clamping bolt 17 draws the shoes 15 and 16 together and binding the device, with the result. that a very el'l'erv ive, adjustable and durable clamping device is provided.
A seating plate 19, of elongated form and shaped to correspond with the surt'ace form of the instrument against which it is intended to bear, has a centrally disposed boss 20. A band 21, 0t flexible material is secured at one side of said boss in any suitable manner, preferably by means ot a small plate secured by screws 22. The opposite end of said band is held in an adjustable position on said boss by a screw and nut construction 23, said screw and nut being seated in a suitable kert on said boss there- 'for provided. As clearly shown on F 7 ot the drawings, a longitudinal rectangular opening 2% is provided within said boss to correspond to the size ot the bracket piece 12, upon which it is to be slidingly mounted when in use. This seating plate 19, provided with a 't'elt 'laciug and its band 21, are constructed to surround a suitable part f the instrun'ient 2G, intended to be sup ported, adjusted and securely fastened thereto by means ot said screw and nut c nstruction 23, as illustratwl in Figs. l and 7 respectively.
The use of my improved instrument. support will be readily understood from the l'oregoing description when taken in conucction with the drawings herewith. The snpport in position of service is shown in Fig. 1. This construction, as will be understood, permits of various adjustments. the device may be raised or lowered by adjusting the tubular member 8 to a suitable height, a l'lcr securing to a suitable elevation the clamp ingdevice is available for further adjustments relative to a vertical inclination ot position if desired, or to any angular position oi? the instrument to the rightor left at the will ot the operator. The aloresaid angular position adjustments as well as the adjustments relative to the vertical inclination of the instrument are obtained and se cured by means of the clamping bolt 1'7.
On releasing said bolt by a few turns, the

A device of the class described comprising a base, a telescoping standard, having means for different positions of adjustment removably mounted on said base, a circular shaped otl-set integral with the free Elli ll fi 1 ill) end of said standard, said elf-set having its outer edges beveled and being bifurcated to engage an adjustable clamping means, said means comprising clamping shoes formed to rest against the outer edge of said off-set, said shoes provided with a centrally disposed oritice to receive clamping parts, said parts comprising a bracket piece having an angularly disposed shank and a clamping bolt provided with a handle threaded into said shank for locking engagement by means of said shoes with said off-set, an elongated seating plate having adjustable carrying means and provided with a longitudinal opening for engagement with said bracket piece.

An instrument su iport comprising a base member, an upright member mounted on said base, an adjustable member slidable into said upright member and provided at one end with an off-set integral therewith, said off-set being arranged to engage a clamping device comprising clamping shoes provided with central orifices, a bracket piece having an angular disposed shank internally threaded, a clampin bolthaving a handle and engaging sald threaded shank, said off-set being bifurcated and said shank and said clamping bolt adapted to engage said shoes in different positions of adjustment with said bifurcated off-set.
4. A device of the character described comprising a base, having a socket and a plurality of radiating sup orts integral therewith, a telescoping stan ard, comprising a plurality of sections removably mounted within said base socket, adjusting means associated with said standard, a bifurcated member of circular contour on the free end of and integral with said standard member and arranged to engage a clamping means, said means comprising clamping shoes provided with a centrall disposed opening an angular instrument loldin member constructed at its outer and wit 1 a seat for supporting an instrument thereon and at its other end provided with an internally threaded shank, said shank passing into one of said shoes, a clamping bolt, having a handle, said bolt passing into a second clamping shoe and engaging said threaded shank, a seating plate shaped to correspond with the form of the instrument against which it bears and having a band associated with said seating plate, means for holding said band in a secured position around an instrument, an opening provided in said seating plate engaging said instrul'nent holding member.

A base, a vertical telescoping member detachably positioned on said base, means for holding said member in rigid relation to said base, a circular and forked bearing member formed at the upper end of said member a horizontally disposed clan'iping device seated within said bearing, said clamping device comprising clamping shoes having a centrally disposed opening provided therein and shaped to seat against said circular bearing member, a bracket having an angular disposed shank integral therewith, a clamping bolt threaded into said shank, said shank and said boltprovided with abutment shoulders to bear against said shoes, said shank engaging one of said shoes while the other shoe is engaged by said bolt, said bracket and said bolt co-operating with said bearing and an instrument supporting means removably mounted on said bracket.

A base, a vertical adjustable telescoping member detachably positioned on said base, means for holding said member in rigid relation to said base, an offset of circular contour integral with said member, said off-set being forked to engage a clamping device, said clamping device being composed of separate associated parts co-operating with said off-set and adapted for different positions of adjustment, means c0- operating with said clamping device to removably carry an instrument holding means.
7. A base, a vertically adjustable member detachably positioned on said base, means for holding said member in rigid relation to said base, a circular shaped off-set formed on the free end of said member, said off-set being bifurcated to engage a horizontally disposed clamping device, said clamping device being composed of separate parts co-operating with said off-set in differ ent positions of adjustment.
