IMPROVEMENT IN WELL-TUBE POINTS.
Specincation forming part of Letters'Patent No. 154,138, dated August 18, 1874; application filed September 29, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANKLIN HERINGTON, of Topeka, in the county of Shawnee and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Well-Points; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a side elevation of the well-point. Fig. 2 is a detached view of the shorter side of the same. Fig.3 is a view of the point with the shorter sideremoved, and Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional plan view of the point.
This invention relates to an improvement in well-points; and consists of a hollow perforated poiut divided at its longitudinal center, by a line runnin g nearly through its entire length, into two unequal parts, lined with brasswire cloth and united near the lower end of the point by a traverse-'joint provided with a tongue and groove, and held together at the top by a reducing-coupling, as will hereinafter more fully appear.
In the accompanying drawing, the wellpoint C is constructed in two unequal parts, D and E, each of which is perforated and lined with brass-wire cloth F, which is securely soldered thereto. The parts D and'E are united near the lower end of the point C by a traversejoint, G, having the tongue A and groove B, and are held together at the top of the point by a reducing-coupling, H, Fig. 1. The perforations admit the water to the point, and the wire-cloth F prevents the admission of sand, &c., thereto. The employment of the traverse-joint G AA B gives the `point G as great strength and durability as if the point were a solid perforated casting, while its construction into two parts readily admits access for -repairing the screening F. The point G when thus constructed is in effecta solid point with an internal screen capable of beingrepaired without difculty.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The wellpoint C, composed of the unequal parts. D -and E, lined with wire cloth F and connected near the lower endk of the point C by the traverse-joint G A B, and adapted to be held together at the upper end thereof by the reducing-coupling 'H, as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
