Be ityknown that l, EDGAR D. IjluME, a citizen of the United States, residing at Collingswood, in the county of Camden the outer end of the post, and formed to engage a` spring-pressed latch pivoted to the post, and adapted to detachably secure the` cap to the base;
A bobbin on the post is yieldingly pressed outward from the base by spring means provided for that purpose, andthe outer end of the bobbin is held by said means in yielding contact with the top portion of the cap. Said portion has an inwardly pror jecting annular boss surrounding the postreceiving aperture, and forming an annular depression in the cap, adapted to receive the latch. Heretofore, the boss has constituted the portion against which the outer end of the bobbin is pressed. lIhe outer end of the bobbin is spaced by said boss from the dished portion of the top or head portion of the cap surrounding the boss. Thread unwound from the bobbin is liable to enter said space and be caught between the bobbin and the cap top, the bobbin being yieldingly pressed towardthe cap top, as above stated.` This constitutes an objection to bobbin cases characterized as described, of which there are many .in use at the present time particularly in the Singer post machine, employing the'bobbin case of the well known `Wheeler & Wilson type.V Moreover, it is not feasible to employ in a case of this type a ready wound bobbin composed of a cop tube or core formed to loosely receive the post, and a winding of thread'on the core, the thread being uni` versally wound, so that the ends, as well as the periphery of the winding, are exposed, thread leaving the outer end `of the winding being particularly liable to be caught between the bobbin and the top of the cap.
One object of the invention `is to obviate the objection above stated, and enable a that thread cannot ready wound bobbin to be advantageously used with a bobbin case of the type described.
Anotherlobject is to provide `an improved form of means for pressing the bobbin tward the captop, whereby the inner end of the bobbin .is covered and guarded so drop therefrom into the space between the inner end of the bobbin and the body of the base. i
In attaining these results I combine with a bobbin case characterized as above descifibethan inner or' supplemental head or adapter, adapted to be conveniently xed to the cap, in position to bear on the entire outer end of a ready wound bobbin, and to overhang the margin of the thread winding, so that thread cannot rise from the outer end of the winding, and the entrance of loose thread from the periphery of the winding into the space between the outer end of the winding and the top or head portion of the cap is impossible.

The case isprovided with means for supporting the Vinner end of a bobbin within the chamber, and pressing the bobbin outward toward the cap 'head and top 16, said means being" embodied in a flat disk 21, 'having a central aperture 22, 'loose-surrounding the post 14, and a Ycrowning volutespring 23, sea-ted on the base and supiporting the disk. The diameter of the disk l21 ,is slightly less than the internal diameter Vof the wall portionsl' and 17., soy that the disk isfre'e'ly movable 'sidewise in the Vbobbin chamber. Outward in'oi'feinentof the disk is limited by astop on 'the post, formed, in this instance, bya split' sleeve 211, of resilient sheet metal, adapted to hug thepostand be friction-ally retained thereon against accidental endwise movement.
The disk 21 is adapted t'o support a ready wound bobbin, composed of a paper tube or core25, and a winding 26 of thread, the diameter' ofthe disk being preferably greatvr than the maximum vdiameter of the bobbin, andso nearly equal to the diameter of the bobbin chamber that'there is not room for loose thread tov drop through .the annular crevice between the disk and the bobbin chamber wall, so that entrance of the thread into thespace between the linner end of the bobbin and the body 12 of the base is'preveiited.

The cap head -16 is somewhat crowning at its marginal portion, and joins thewa'l'lportio'n 17 atan yobtuse angle. The diameter et the linner head is such that its margin is adapted to have a close frictio'nal vfit on the inner surface of the wall portion 17 so that when the inner head is pressed against the angle at the unction of the head 16, and wall portion 17, it is tightly wedged in place, andconstitut'es a practically inseparable part of the cap. An aperture 29 in the center of the inner head'receii'fes the outer end ofthe post 14, asshewnby'lfigures 1 and 2.
'Vhenafbobbin is deposited on the disk 21, vvund the cap is placed on the base, and secured by the latch, the outer end of the so that loose thread is prevented 'from entering the space between the outer end ot the bcbbin and `the cap headle.
It will now be seen that the bobbin is guarded at both "ends, so that thread can pass from the bobbin only through the usual ori1i. cesprovided for the 'passage of the thread te the tension devices on .the exterior ofthe'wallportion 17.
It will also be seen that the inner 'headf28 constitutes a simple yand easily applied adapter, \'\'hich enables the ca'p to guard the outer end of a ready wound bobbin,` the tact being, that without the inner head, the ,re cessed and lembossed cap head 16 can be used only with a bo'bbin'including va spool with deep flanges between which the threadvmust be wound trointinie to time by the operator, one of said flanges bearing on the jboss 20. The inner head 28 constitutes a frictional bearing for the entire surface of the outer end the ybobbin 'preventing -undesirably loose rotation of the latter. The springpressed disk 21 constitutes 'a 'similar frictional bearing which, b y reason o the fact that its diameter is'gr'eater than that ot lthe bofbbin, aids in preventing l'ooserotation of the bobbin- The stop sleeve 24 is vadjustable longitudinally on the post, softhat theminimum space between the disk 21 'and the inner head may be varied, according to the 'length 'of the bobbin.
I claim:
1. 2. A bobbin case 'embodying the combina-A tion specified by claim' l, said pressing means beingv embodied in a spring-'pressed disk' movable in the bobbin chamber, and.

3. A bobbin case embodying the combination specified by claim l, said pressing means being embodied in a spring-pressed disk movable in the bobbin chamber, and pr0- vided with a central post-receiving aperture, the diameter of the disk being such that `it is adapted to Contact with and guard the inner end of the bobbin throughout the entire area of said end7 the said post being provided. with an adjustable stop adapted to vary the minimum distance between said disk and the said inner head.
4. A bobbin case comprising a base having a circular body and an annular' Wall portion, a central post fixed to the base body, a cap having an annular wall portion and a head apertured to receive the outer end of the post, means for securing the cap in position on the post, two parallel fiat disks apertured to receive the post and each eta diameter as great as that of the largest bobbin adapted to be used in the case7 said disks being respectively fitted about the post within the base body and supported Within the cap, a spring arranged about the post between the base body and the adjacent disk, and an adjustable stop on the post for limiting movement of the last said disk by the spring. p
