Description
A. HENTZSGHEL.
Head-Rests for Mattress-Frames. N0.]54,043, Patented Aug.11,1874-.
UNITED STATES PATENT O EIoE.
AUGUST EENTzScHEL, 0E cINcINNATI, OHIO, ASSIG oa OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT To A. wUEST & SoN, OF SAME PLAcE.
IMPROVEMENT IN 'HEAD-RESTS FOR MATTRESS-FRAMES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 154,043, dated August 11, 1874 application filed May 1, 1874.
T0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, AUGUST HENTzscEEL, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Head-Best for Mattress-Frames, of which the following is a specification: Y
My invention relates to an ilnproved form of those mattress-frames which are provided with a hinged head (section) capable of being elevated or depressed to suit the convenience of the occupant; and consists in an arrangement of hinged trigger and cords for moving the same, a rack, and a catcli plate, all operating, as hereinafter set forth, to hold the head-rest at any desired angle, and to release it and allow it to descend when desired.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is aper'spective view of my head-rest in an elevated-position, a portion of the frame proper and all of the springs or other upholstery being omitted. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same with the head in its depressed condition. Fig. 3 is' a longitudinal section,
section, B, which is secured to said main frame by hinges at O. Hinged at- D to the under side of section B is a rack, E, whose teeth 0 engage over a shoulder, f, at the: bottom of a slot, f, in curved plate F. F, that is secured to the frame A; also, hinged to said frame A, at G, is a curved trigger, H, from which cords I I extend. These cords, being rove around sheave J, are carried out through the sides of the frame, as at K, and may terminate in rings L for their convenient operation. A pin, M, on the rack E, engaging in sockets or lips N N on plate F F, limits the upward movement of the section B, and thus prevents the liability of the latter being strained off of its hinges by careless handling.
Pads or cushions 0 upon the main frame may afford an elastic bearing for section B.
The operation of this device is very simple. The section B, being lifted to the desired angle, is automatically. retained in that position by the engagement of the rack E on the plate F F, and from this position it is released by merely pulling one of the cords I I.
I claim as my invention The combination of the 'hinged trigger H and cords I I with the rack E and catch-plate F, operating as herein set forth.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
AUGUST HENTZSOHEL.
