uNi-rso STATES PATENT orFlca.
SAMUEL menu, or can SHOE RLESTON, WEST VIRGINIA.
FORM.
Application filed September 15, 1824. Serial No. 737,771.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL HIoKnL, a citizen of the United States, and resident of ,Charleston, in the county of Kanawha and State of West Virginia, have invented cer" tain new and useful Improvements in Shoe Forms, of whichthe itollowing is a specification." 1 I My invent on relates to" a devlce for 1Q stretching orforming a shoe so that pressure will not come on the foot; at points where there are corns or bunions.
It also enables the shoe to be raised at the toe or at places where there are seams to prevent undue pressure uponthe foot at these places.
An ob'ect of the invention is to provide such a evice which will be simple in its construction but eflicient in operation, and
' which will enable the shoe to be stretched at any desired'point;
/ Further objects ofthe invention will be apparent from the following detailed description and appended claims.
'In the drawings:
Figure-l is a side view ofthe device-with the parts in closed position. a M
4 Figure 2 is a side view of the device with the parts in open position and'one part in position within a shoe. A
Figure?) is. a transverse section of the device in operative position with relation to a shoe. v
Figures 4, 5 and '6 are perspective views of some of the forms of members thatmayj. b hmployed for stretching portions of the" Theinvention comprisestwo members and 2 hinged together atf3. withhandles 4 and 5 re ctivelyi The member 1 .is,s1i'ghtlv" 53m the member 2'so thatit wili fit within the other when the -,parts 'are closed asin Fi re :1. Thismem'ber' 11 is preferably ma e of sprlng 1 steel or some other metal which has considerable resil iency. Both members]. and 2 are of generally smaller inverted trough-shae. 'The. outer member # 2 is heavier and sti er than the inner memher and may be made-of some heavy metal.
- The member 1 is provided with. holes in 150 which will fit the stems 6 of forms 7, 8 and- 9, as shownin Figures/i, 5 and 6, respectively. These forms are given various shapes according to the purpose for which each is to be used.- A round corn or bunion at the side of the foot will be represented by the'form 9, while if it is desired to stretch the shoe over the top seam near the toes, a form 8 as shown in Figure 5 may be employed. Special forms may be designed for special'purposes and for individual cases.
The outer member 2 is preferably provided with depressions 10 corresponding 'enerally to the position of the various Iorms to be employed. In using the invention, the desired forms are placed in the member 1 which is then inserted into the shoe A as indicated in Figure 2. By pressure on the handles, the outer member 2 will be forced down over the shoe and inner 'member, and the forms will force the leather of the shoe outward into the depressions 10. The parts may be retained in this position for as long a time as is necessary to properly stretcher form the shoe. When removed, the shoe will retain to a great extent the with much force against the points where I contour given it, and therefore will not bear the forms have been thus relieving the foot a, frompressure' at these places.
It is obvious that in this mannera shoe may, be easily-treated to render it comfort v able to the wearer even'if corns or bunions are present or if the shoe is too tight across.
any particular portion of the foot. The-size f and precise contour of the forms may bevaried and the materials of which the device isconstructed are also capable of wide variatheappended claims;
I claim as my invention:
ivotally connected with each other and each ceive said form pieces.
detachab form pieces while the other member which is rlgidis formed with one or ',1.' A shoe" form comprising two members" tion. In general it is to be understood that the invention is limited only by the scope of 9 more depressions to receive said form pieces.
3. A shoe form comprising two members pivotally connected with each other and each having a handle ortion, one of said members which is. 0 conczwo-convex contour is resilient and carries one or more detachableform pieces while the other member SAMUEL HICKEL.
