Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 153,937, dated August 11, 1874; application filed I J My 3, 1874.
To all 'wlwm'it may concern:
Be it known that we, FRANK A. FAY and RUDOLPH SPAHN, of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Ball and Instep Stretcher, of which the following is a specification:
The invention will first be fully described,
and then pointed out in the claim.
Figure l is a longitudinal sectional elevation of my improved ball and instep stretcher, and Fig. 2 is a transverse section.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents two side pieces, arranged between a bottompiece, B, and the instep piece O, and pivoted at the heel I), and provided with the tapered screw-plug E, a little in advance of the pivot for forcing them apart at the ball for stretching it, a divided nut being formed, half in each piece, for the plug, and the plug being provided with a stem, F, and a handle for turning it. The instep-stretcher G is pivoted to the bottom-piece B at the toe G, and it is connected behind the instep by the yoke H to the nut I of a hollow screw, K, resting on the stand J, which is supported on the bottom piece B. This hollow screw surrounds the rod F, and allows it to extendarranged upon the same stem F, as shown and described, to render them more convenient of application, and to economise room in the boot or gaiter.
