Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 153,937, dated August 11, 1874; application filed I J My 3, 1874.

Be it known that we, FRANK A. FAY and RUDOLPH SPAHN, of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Ball and Instep Stretcher, of which the following is a specification:
The invention will first be fully described,
and then pointed out in the claim.
Figure l is a longitudinal sectional elevation of my improved ball and instep stretcher, and Fig. 2 is a transverse section.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents two side pieces, arranged between a bottompiece, B, and the instep piece O, and pivoted at the heel I), and provided with the tapered screw-plug E, a little in advance of the pivot for forcing them apart at the ball for stretching it, a divided nut being formed, half in each piece, for the plug, and the plug being provided with a stem, F, and a handle for turning it.
