UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT H. FENWIOK, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF `AND OWAN OALLAGHAN, OF SAME PLAGE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SKIRT-BOARDS.
Specicaton forming part of Letters Patent No. 153,891, dated August 11, 1874 application. filed May 27, 1874.
To all whom t may concern:
Beit known that I, ROBERT H. FENWIOK,
` of Boston, of the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful invention having reference to Skirt- Boards.; and do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure 1 is a front elevation, and Fig. 2 a longitudinal section, of one of my skirt-boards and its folding frame. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of such, taken through the pivotal dovetailed slide thereof. Figs. 4 'and 5 are opposite end views, such gures representing the parts as unfolded with the board in a state or position ready for use. Fig. 6 is a side view, and Fig. 7 a longitudinal section, of the parts as folded or collapsed.
My invention relates to the combination of a skirt-board with its supporting-standards and base-frame, by means whereby such board may be tipped or turned up or down, and moved longitudinally back and forth with reference to one of said standards, such being to admit not only of a shirt being readily applied to or removed from the said board, as occasion may require, but of the whole mechanism being folded orcollapsed, all as hereinafter explained.
In such drawings, Adenotes the skirt-board, provided on its lower surface with two parallel guides, B B, having their inner edges beveled, as shown, to receive between them a dove-` tailed slide, C. This slide is fastened to a rockshaft, D, pivoted at its ends to the upper part of a vertical frame or standard, E. At the ends of the guides B B two cleats, lB` F, are fastened to the board A, at right angles to the guides, such cleats serving as stops to arrest the board in its movements back and forth on the slide. The standard E is hinged, as shown at a. a, to a horizontal frame, F, near one of its ends. Such frame may be provided with four short legs, b b b b. It has hinged to it, by hinges c c, another standard, shown at G, and there is extended across the frame, as shown, two transverse bars, d d. Two struts, H I, hinged to the two bars d d, serve when abutting against the standards and two turnbuttons, c e, arranged on and applied to the said standard, as represented, to retain the standards in upright positions.
By moving the board back upon the dove tailed slide, and turning over and down the two struts, the whole may be folded down upon the base-frame, in manner as shown in Figs. 6 and 7. When in such positions the several parts may be secured together by means of hooks f f and staples g g, arranged as shown.
I claim- The combination of the dovetailed slide C,
the rock-shaft D, and the guides B B, with the skirt-board A and the base-frame and standards E Gr, all being arranged and applied substantially as specified.
