, B it known that I, IRVING'EISTEIN, a citizen ot' the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn, in the countyof Kings and State of New York, have invented new and Innproved ire-Reel Supports, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the class of devices that are employed for supporting delivery to a machine for operating upon said wire, and an object of my invention, among others, is the production of a' wire reel support that shall be simple and extremely durable in construction and particularly ei'hcient in its method of operation. 7
A form of support embodying my invention and in the construction and use of Figure 3 is a view in section on a plane denoted by the dotted line 33 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a similar view on a plane denoted by a dotted line H of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 1 but showing the reel tipped to one side.
In the drawings herein illustrating my improved wire reel support the numeral 6 denotes a base that may be constructed of any suitable material and of any desired shape, it answering my purpose if it have sufficient stability to steadily support a reel mounted thereon. A supporting post 7 is secured to and rises from the base and said post is provided with a spring seat 8 resting preferably upon a plate 9 secured to the post. A guide 10 is formed at one side of the spring seat for a retaining rod 11 that passes through said guide and is pivotally attached at its lower end to a treadle 12 pivotally secured to a treadle support 50 13 projecting upwardly from the base,
A reel supporting head 1 t is pivotally secured to the upper end of the post 7, in the preferred form of construction this head having a recess 15 in its under surface into which the post projects, as shown in Figure I reeled or wound masses of wire, usually for p 2 of the drawings, and this head also comprises a cam or cams 16 projecting therefrom in contact with an actuator -17 preferably in the form of a plate loosely mounted on the post 7 and receiving the thrust of an actuating spring 18 seated at its lower end in a recess in the spring seat 8 and thrusting with its upper end against the actuator 17 that is forced by said spring a ainst the cam or cams 16, thereby tending to force the head into a definite p'ositiornas shown in Figural of the drawings, and in which position a reel receiving post 13) secured to and projecting from the head will be located in a vertical position,as shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings. This actuator 17 also has a guide 10 for the retaining rod 11.

In accordance with the provisions of the patent statutes I have described the principles of operation of my invention, together with the device which I now consider to represent the best embodiment thereof; but I desire tohave it understood that the device shown is only illustrative, and that the means on said head to rotatively receive a reel, a locking member rigid with said head, a retaining member to engage said locking member to positively retain said head against movement in opposite directions in different positions, and means for operating said retaining member to cause it to automatically retain said locking member.

A reel support comprising a head, means for rotatably supporting said head, means on said head to rotatively receive a reel, a counterpoise device for applying force to said head to rotate it, a locking member rigid with said head, a retaining member to engage said locking member to positivel; retain said head against movement in opposite directions in different positions, and means for operating said retaining member.

A reel support con'iprising a head, means for rotatably supportingsaid head, means on said head to rotatively receive a reel, a locking member rigid with said head, a spring, means on said head to receive the force of said spring to rotate said head, a retaining member to engage said locking member to retain said head against movement, and means for operating said retainin g member.

A reel support comprising a head, means for rotatablv supporting said head, means on said head to rotatively receive a reel, a cam rigid with said head, a locking member rigid with said head, means for applying force to said cam to rotate said head, a retaining member to engage said locking member to retain said head againstmove ment, and means for operating said retaining member.

A reel support comprising a head, means for rotatably supporting said head, means on said head to rotatively receive a reel, a cam rigid with said head, a spring to exert force against said cam to rotate said head, a locking member rigid with said head, a retaining member to engage said locking member to'retain said head against movement, and means for operating said retaining member. 7

A reel support comprising a supporting post, a head pivotally supported by said post, means on said. head to receive a reel, a spring seat located on said post, a cam rigid with said head, a spring supported by said seat to exert its force against said head, men is for locking the head against movement, and means for operating said lock.

A reel support comprising a supporting post, a head pivotallv supported by said post, .ieans on said head to receive a reel, a spring seat located on said post, a cam rigid with said head, an actuator loosely mounted on the post in engagement with said cam, a spring resting against said seat and thrusting against said actuator, means for retaining said head against movement, and means for operating said retaining means.
