UNITED STATES PATENT, OFFICE.
LIEWLS LEVVISON, O'F HAMILTON, ONTARIO, CANADA, ASSIGNOR TO THE CONE COM PANY OF AMERICA, OF NEW YORK, N- Y., A. CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
TRI'IIIMING DEVICE FOR ICE-CREAM-CONE-MAKIHG MACHINES.
Application filed November 26, 1920. Serial No. 426,58.
To all "107mm it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Lewis Lnwison, a subject of the King of Great Britain, of the city of Hamilton, in the county of lVentworth, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful limproveinents in a Trimming Device for Ice- Cream-Cone-Making lilachines, of which the following is the specification.
My invention relates to a trimming device for ice cream cone making machines pat cnted by me in the Dominion of Canada under No. 186,239 on the 27th August, 1918, and in the United States under No. 1,289,209
" on the 31st Dec. 1918. My present invention refers particularly to a trimming device for the edge of the cone and the object of my invention is to devise an extremely simple, and efficient means, whereby the top edge of the cone may be accurately and smoothly trimmed prior to its leaving the mold! My invention consists of a mold the top edge of which has an annular steplike double recess terminating in a bottom sharp edge and an intermediate sharp edge, and a co-acting core having a washer secured at the upper end, the edge of which is designed to fit the lower recess and is provided with peripheral recesses and an under inclined bevelled edge, which is designed intermediate of its width to rest on the bottom sharp corner edge of the lower recess, and a cap located above the washer, the core, washer and cap being secured together by a central bolt, the parts being arranged and constructed "in detail as hereinafter more particularly explained.
Fig. 1, is a side elevation showing the position of the mold.
Fig. 2, is a vertical section through the mold.
Fig. 3, is a sectional plan of the washer.
Fig. 4:, is a cross section of the washer.
In the drawings like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
1 is the table, 2 the central shaft and 3 an arm secured to the central shaft and carrying a rib 4e. 5 is the mold, which is held in the ends of the separable arms 6.
The mold 5 comprises the mold proper 7 having a conical portion 7 and the horizontal portion 7 whereby it is held in the end of the arm 6. The interior of the mold is formed with a double annular recess or more properly tvvo recesses 8 8. The lower core is suitably secured to the arm 18 (see Fig. 2).
It will be noticed that there is an annular space between the bottom edge of the arm 13 and the recess 8 and also that there is a space between the periphery of the arm 13 and the flange 9. 1
When the mold is filled with batter and the core is being brought down into the po sition shown in F ig. 2, the surplus batter, which is very small will'escape through the recess 12 and around the recesses 8 and S and between the periphery of the cap13 and the flange 9. Very little, if any, gets over the top of the flange When the mold is in the position shown.
in Fig. 2 and, therefore, is closed for baking the bevelled ed e 13 of the washer will rest intermediate of its width upon the sharp corner 8 When the baking has par tially taken place and the batter is in a semiplastic state pressure is exerted by the rib a on the end of the arm 3 and this pressure bringing the bevelled edge against the sharp corner 8 serves to very efficiently and evenly trim off the top edge of the cone.
It will be seen that the means, which I now employ to trim the top edge is very simple and such trimming is effected prior to the discharge of the cone from the mold, which is an important desideratum. I
What I claim as my invention is: I 1. A trimming device for ice cream con making machines comprising a mold formed with a lower interior recess at the upper end of the conical portion terminating in a sharp corner, and a core provided with a flaring upper end bevelled at its lower side and designed to rest intermediate of its width upon the sharp corner to form a severing means. 2. A. trimming device for ice cream cone making machines comprising a mold formed with a lower interior recess at the upper end of the coni'ceil portion terminating-{in sharp corner, and a core fitting the mold, a Washer located at the upper end of the coreend provided with a bottom bevel-led edge designed to rest against the sharp corner of the bottom interior recess, and means for secnri-ngthe Washer in alaice.
3. A trimming device for ice cream cone making machines comprising a mold formed With a. lower interior recess at the upper end. of the conical portion'terminziting' in a sharp corner, and e core fittin'g'the mold, a Washer located at the upper end of the core and 13'roi id ecl' \i itli' a bottom bevelled edge designed to rest against the sharp corner of thebottom interior recess,- means for secnr} ing the Washer inplace, the washer being provided With a peripheral recess; v
4. A trimming device for ice cream cone makingmachineseompi'ising it mold formed with a lower-interior recess at thenpper end of the conical portion terminating in a sharp located at the upper end of the core and provided With a bottom bevelled edge .designed'to rest against the sharp corner of the bottom interior recess, a cap looselyfit ting" Within the top ofthe core and means for securing the core, Washer and captogether. v
