Description
Patented May l2, 1925.
UNITED STATES ALEERrsToNE, or cLAnKsvILLn, Mrssouur;
MOLDBOARD.
Application led November 2, 1923. `Serial No. 672,418.
' To all who/my t may concern Be it known that I, ALBERT STONE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Clarksville, in the county of Pike and State of Missouri, have invented new and useful` Improvements in Moldboards, of which the following is a specification. Y
The object of this invention is the provision of a rotary mold board for plows.
A further object is to cut away the upper corner of a mold board to produce a rounded depression therein the outer wall being bevelled inwardly and the depression being covered by a disk which is supported for free rotation on the mold board, and whereby the dirt elevated by the plow will be directed against the disk to cause therotation of the latter and to force the dirt to one side of the plow with the least amount of fric tion, so that the draft strain upon the plow is greatly reduced. Y
The drawings which accompany and which form part of this application illustrate a satisfactory embodiment of the invention,
and wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a mold board embodying the improvement.
Figure 2 is a rear elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 3 3 of Figure 1.
In the drawings the numeral l designates the mold board of an ordinary construction of plows. The upper outwardly rounded rear corner of the mold board is in the present instance notched or cut away to provide a lower angle edge 2, which merges into an inwardly rounded edge 3. l The edges 2 and 3 provided by the cut away portion of the mold board are bevelled to provide inner sharpened surfaces.
Secured on the rear face of the mold board l by means 4L there is a bracket 5- offset to provide an extending arm 6,'which is dis posed centrallv in the notched or cut away portion of the said mold board. On `the arm 6 of the bracket there is pivot-ed as at 7 a disk cutter 8. 'Ihe cutter fully covers the notched portion of the mold board and extends outwardly therefrom. The disk is so arrangedthat dirt elevated by the plow will Contact therewith and by virtue of such'contact will cause the rotation thereof so that the least amount of friction between the dirt and the mold board will be thus afforded and consequently the draft power of the plow usually necessitated will be materially decreased.
The beveled edge of the notched `portion of the mold board directs the dirt against Jhel disk and also servesl as a scraper for said Having described my n invention, I claim In a plow construction, a mold board having its upper rear corner notched to provide a lower angle edge which merges intoA an upwardly `directed yinwardly rounded y edge, both of said edges being sharpened,
an angle bracket secured to the rear face of the lmold board and projecting into the notch, and a disk cutter pivotally secured to the bracket, and covering the notch ofthe mold board, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I aiiiX my signature.
ALBERT STONE.
