UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BLANKET HOLDER AND FIRE EXTINGUISHER.
Application filed. February 6, 1924. Serial No. 691,080.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE COLLINS SAVAGE, a citizen of the United States, and
a resident of Glastonbury, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and Improved Blanket Holder and Fire Extinguisher, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a device for use as a blanket rail in an automobile as well as for a lire extinguisher.
An object of the invention is to provide a single element which is simple and efficient and compact and can be disposed, preferably, on the back of the seat of an automobile for use as a blanket rail and which, at the same time, can be easily detached therefrom to serve as a fire extinguisher, said device constructed and adapted to contain fire extinguishing material.
The invention is illustrated in the draw ings, of which Figure 1 is a plan View of the rail in place;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged elevation, partly in section, of the rail; and
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
The form of the invention shown in the drawings is a preferred form, although it is understood that modifications in the construction and arrangement of the parts and in the character of the ,materials used may be adopted without departing from the spirit of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
The invention in general includes theprovision of a hollow rail or tube filled with fire extinguishing material and having re movable caps on the ends whereby when the caps are removed the material can be properly distributed to extinguish a fire. With the caps on the ends of the'tube it is adapted to be clamped into proper position with spring brackets mounted on the back of an automobile seat, or other suitable support,
to act as a rail for the support of blankets or similar articles.
The preferred form of the invention, as shown in the drawings, comprises a hollow tube 1, preferably of steel, which is adapted to be filled with any suitable fire extinguishing material 2 which may be in the form of a liquid or powder. On the ends of this tube caps 3 and 4 are adapted to be disposed, said caps each provided with ribs 5 and 6 spaced a definite distance apart so as to suitably effect the disposition of the rail with respect to spring clip brackets 7 and 8. The ends of the brackets, as shown in the drawings, are adapted to-lie between the ribs on each cap so that the tube will not slide laterally in the brackets. While in position on the brackets the tube will act as a rail to support blankets. The brackets are preferably fastened to any suitable support, such as a back 9 of an automobile seat. To detach the tube from the brackets, it is merely required to pull it away therefrom and by simply removing one of the caps or both of them from the tube the contents can be distributed to extinguish a fire. The caps 3 and 4 are preferably snug fitting on the ends of the tube so as to prevent the leakage of material from the tube.
That I claim is 1. In combination, spring-clip bracket plates, a tube, removable caps on the ends of said tube, each of said caps having a pair of spaced ribs thereon the ends of said clips adapted to embrace the caps between said ribs to detachably support the tube therefrom, and fire extinguishing means contained within the tube.
2. .A blanket rail comprising a tube, removable caps on the ends of said tube, each of said caps having a pair of spaced ribs thereon, said caps adapted to be embraced by spring clips between said ribs, and ,a fire extinguishing means contained within the tube.
GEORGE COLLINS SAVAGE.
