F. A. WEEKS INKSTAND Filed May 24,v 1922 ATTORNEY Patented May 12, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT; lorries.
FRANK A. WEEKS, or PLAINFIELD, new Jnnsnv.
l INKSTAND.
Application led May 24, 1922. Serial No. 563,449; v i
To all whom it may concern.' n y' Be it known that l, FRANK A. Wanna a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Plainfield, in the county of Union and `State of New Jersey,"have invented certain wardly `projecting ribs which serve to locate the cover over the well and prevent both lateral and l longitudinal movement thereof,
while at the' same time" permitting the cover to be lifted off from the base when it is desired to supply the well with ink. The glass base may also, when desired, be formed with :a forward rest forpens and pencils.
My invention pertains'more particularly vtoa novel cover to be mounted upon the glass base over tlieiiikwell, thiscoverf being vof special construction adapted to the ribs on the base and havingvin its forward central portion a dip-opening to admit alpen to the well and a specialpivotally mounted self- `"closing closure device therefor vadapted to maintain said opening closed except while a pen is being introduced into and removedy therefrom.
"presented, reference being had' to thef'ac The invention will be fully understood from the `detailed description hereinafter companying drawings, in which:
. Fig. 1 is a top view4 of aninkstaiid einbodying my invention; f
Fig. 2 is' a central vertical longitudinal section through'thesame, the closure device for the dip-opening `in thecover being shown in normal closed posit-ion;
Fig. 3 is a corresponding section through the same, with the closure device for kthe dipopening shown partly inl side.l elevation Aand partly in` section in its open position;
Fig. 4, is a vertical transverse section through the inkstand taken on the dottedk line 4 of. Fig. 2; x l
Fig. 5 is a bottom view'of thecover removed from the glass base;
Fig. 6 is a like view of the main ybody por- 5" tion of the cover.. the closure device for'the dip-'opening andthe frame for 'securing said device to `the body of the cover being omitted;`
Figf' is `a detached perspective view of the closure `devicefor the dip-opening, and
Fig.` 8 is a like view of' the frameforsecuring the closure devicet-o the cover,A g
1n the ydrawings lcdesignates the glass dip-opening in said'cover, 18 the `closure `de- 4 vice for saidopening. and 14. alframe which` `is'finally `fastened to the body portionof the cover for securing said closure kdevice in position andv atthe same time permitting the device to have an oscillatory or hinged movement. y f
The base 10 is in one integral oblong glass base, 1l the cover mounted thereon,`12 the 4 block containing a. commodious oblong chamf beror well 15 for the ink and formed with a `75 forward pen-rest 16, a main flat upper surface 17 andlongitudiiial upwardly projecting ribs 18, one rib being at each side of the upper end of the well 15 and extending be- "yond the front and rear walls'thereof, as
shown in Figs. 2`and'3.
The cover 11 is of generally oblong out-` line suited to the base 1`Okand will beformed,
usually, of composition material of thecharacter commonly employed for inlrstandn covers. The cover 11 has a curved forwardlyv projecting portion .19 and along its ledges is4 formed with a `downwardly pro# jecting integral encompassing iange having a flat lower edge to rest firmly" upon the 1 fiat upper surface of the base 10, said flange comprising side members 20, a rear mem.
iio
The ...downwardly I4projecting encompassing flange on` thescover serves to'fel'evate the body of the cover from the base and yto firmly support the saine thereon, and saidlange in cooperation with the-ribs l18 actsl to prevent either longitudinal or lateral shifting of the cover after it has beenpositioned upon the base 10. l y
In its central Aforward portion the cover 11 is Aitor-ined dhwith the opening 412 which, is oblong in outline and forwardly-ro'unded.at .itsfront Tend,- .at whichythe cover is formed v-with. arpdownwardly y .and inwardly surface curved .Harige-5.24 whose-lower.surface inclines upwardly Vand.reaiwvardly, as.` :shown in Eigs..2 andv .4,ato iforfingayseatf25 yfor the forward --end vportion of. the .closure-.device '13. when sa'ijdf ldevice* is in. its iclosed. position, asshown Fig. v.2. `'The lflange..2 4. laps `over upongthe torward-i end of. the. elosuredevice .liandservesasa cover therefor/aswell@ as .to iprovide on its l lower surace5-1a..s eat 1 or stop tor the said device .when .the-k device turns to its closed position.
