To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, MrNAm) A. POSSONS,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas Stoves, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to improvements in gas stoves pertaining more particularly to an improved manner of fastening the front to the sides and top of the stove.
In the building of gas stoves and ranges it is essential that the cor; truction be one that may be quickly and economically assembled in the factory and it is furthermore necessary that the appearance of the stove be looked to as the appearance goes a long way towards selling the article.
With the end in view of accomplishing the above I have perfected the herein shown and described invention.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a stove construction wherein the stove front is fastened to the stove top and sides in a novel manner.
Another and further object of the invention is to provide a construction wherein the stove front is fastened to the sides and top by the use of bolts which hold the oven door latches and hinges in place.
Another and further object of the invention is to provide a novel construction of fastening the stove or oven front to the oven sides and top in a manner which does not detract from the appearance of the stove.
Another object of the invention is to provide a construction such as described which is cheap of manufacture and highly efiicient in operation.
Other further objects, improved results and novel features of construction will appear from the following description and accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a fragmentary v1ew 1n elevation of the oven portion of the stove.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1 looking in the direction indicated by arrow.
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2 looking in the direction indicated by arrow. Figure 4 is a view taken on the line of Figure looking in the direction indicated by arrow, a portion of the view being in horizontal section.
Referring now to the drawings in which like parts are designated by similar reference numerals throughout the description,
A represents the front frame of a stove oven, B represents the stove base, C represents the oven doors, D the oven door hinges, E the oven door handles, and F the stove legs.
Going into a more particular description of the invention it will be seen that the base B supports the entire structure of the oven, the stove and oven being supported the proper distance above the floor by reason of the legs F. The oven front is composed of the front frame A which is composed of an l.-shaped angle iron as clearly appears, one of the legs 5 of the angle iron being at the front of the oven while the other leg 6 extends down the side and across the top of the oven.
The oven is provided at its front with the two doors 0 having the usual handles E. These doors are mounted in the hinges or supports D which are held in place by the two bolts 7 and 8 which extend through the front leg 5 of the oven front angle---ironframe A.
To form the remainder of the oven there are the oven side walls 9, the oven back 10 and the oven to 11.
As previou y mentioned the invention ertains 'to the manner in which the oven 1 ront is connected to the oven sidewalls and referring to the drawings, partic- Figure 3, it will be seen that the oven uIarl y 9 are provided with an inward side walls bend 13 adjacent their front ends so that they parallel and abut the inner face of the oven front frame is 6. The extreme front ed e of the oven slde walls 9 are bent at rig t angles to form a flange 14 which parallels and abuts the inner side of the oven front frame wall 5. As clearly appea-rs the inner edge of the leg 5 of the ovenv front frame is provided with a bulge 15 which forms the seat or stop for the oven door C.
The front end of the oven side walls 9 are fastened to the front frame by means of U-shaped strips mounted behind the oven front'frame A. The base 16 of these stnps engage the inward flange 14: of the oven side walls while the one vertical leg 17 of the strip engages-the bulge 15 at the inner edge of the front leg 50f the oven front frame which forces the remaining vertical leg 18 of the strip against the oven side wall 9 thus clamping the oven side .wall between the vertical leg 18 of the strip and the side leg 6 of the oven front frame A.
This U-shaped strip is held in place by the bolts 7 and 8 which additionally hold the oven door hinges or supports D in place.
From this it will be seen that the oven side walls are fastened at their front edges to the oven front frame without the use of any bolts other than are necessary to the construction for supporting the oven doors.
The bottom edges of the side walls are supported in the grooveslli which are provided in the inward turned upper edge 20 of the stove oven base B being held in place by the bolts 12.
The rear edges of the oven sides 9 are provided with an inward turned flange 21 which is adapted to parallel and abut the inner side of the oven back 10 as clearly appears in Fig. 4 of the drawing.
The oven top is provided with downwardly extending edges or flanges 22 throughout its perimeter. These downwardly extending flanges 22 of the oven top 11 surround the upper ends of the oven side walls 9 and the upper end of the oven back wall 10. As clearly appears in Fig. 4 of the drawings the rear edges of the oven side walls 9 are fastened to the oven back 10 and to the oven top 11 by suitable bolts 23 which penetrate the top flange 22, the oven back 10 and the inward turned flange 21 of the oven side walls 9.
It is found that no fastening .ofthe side walls to the oven top is needed between the fastening at the oven front frame A and the'bolts 23 at the back of the oven. The top edges of the side walls are provided with an offset 24 .and inward bent flanges 25 which together with the fastenings .mentioned hold the top ends of the side walls sufficiently tight against the flange 22 of the oven top.
The oven top is fastened at its front edge to the oven front frame A by means of an L-shaped angle iron 26. As clearly appears in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings the flange 22 at the front of the oven top is retained within the L-shaped angle iron- A which forms the front frameof the oven. The L-shaped angle iron 26 then clamps the front edge of the top in the angle iron frame A by reason of the bolt 28 which penetrates the front leg 5 of the oven front frame A, the flange 22 of the oven top and the vertical leg 29 of the L-shaped angle iron 26.
The bolt 28 which fastens the .L-shaped angle iron 26 in place also holds the oven door catch 30 in place upon the innermost 30 in place. lit is possible to make the stove sufficiently strong by these few fastenings due to the U-shaped bracket which extends the length ofthe front edges of the oven side walls and holds the front edges of the side walls in place in the channel iron frame Having thus described my invention what I claim 'and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An oven housing comprising overlapping side and substantially U-shaped front walls, and a U-shaped angle iron overlapping, engaging and clamping both walls in position.
2. An oven housing comprising overlapping front and 'side walls, an angle iron clamping the overlapping side and front walls, said angle iron held in place by bolts which also support hinges adapted to support doors for the oven.
3. An oven housing comprising overlap ping side and substantially U-shaped front walls, and a ill-shaped angle iron overlapping both walls, the inner leg of the last mentioned U-shaped angle iron in engagement with an inturned part of the front frame, for the purpose described.
4. an oven housing comprising overlapping front and side walls, oven doors and door openings in said front wall, an angle iron clamping the overlapping portion of the side wall to the front, and bolts supporting hinges for said oven doors and clamping said angle iron in place.
5. An oven housing comprising overlapping front, side and top walls, oven door openings and doors in said front Wall, an angle iron clamping the overlapping portion of the side wall to the front, an angle iron clamping the overlapping portion of the top tothe front, hinges for the oven door, a catch for the oven door, and bolts for supporting said hinges and catch in place and clamping said angle irons upon the overlapping edges of the side and top walls.
6. An oven housing comprising overlapping front, side and top walls, an oven door and door opening in .said front wall, angle irons for clamping the overlapping side and top walls to the oven front, and said angle irons held in their clamping position by bolts which support a catch and hinges for the oven door.
7. In a gas stove or the like, an oven comprising an angle iron front frame having an oven door and door openings, oven side walls having flanges at their front edges, an angle iron positioned to clamp the flange of the oven side walls to the oven front frame, said clamping angle iron held in position by bolts which supporthinges for said oven door.
8. In a gas stove or the like, an oven com prising an angle iron front frame provided with an oven door and door opening, oven side and top walls having flanges at their front edges overlapping said oven front frame, angle irons positioned to clamp the flanges of the oven side and top walls to the oven front frame, said clamping angle irons held in position by the bolts which support a catch and hinges for said oven door.
9. An oven housing comprising overlapping front, side and top 'walls, a U-shaped angle iron clamping the overlapping sides and front walls to ether, an L angle iron clamping the overlapping top and front walls together, 7 irons in position, said bolts additionally sup porting a catch and hinges for an oven door positioned in said oven front wall.
10. An oven housing comprising overlap ping side and substantially U-shaped front frames, the front frame provided with an in elined bend located inside of the leg of the front frame, and a substantially U-shaped angle-iron located at the inner side of the frame with its inner Wall in engagement with the inclined bend of the front frame.
