BATTERY-TERMINAL CONNECTION.
Application filed January 11, 1924. Serial No. 685,675.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, CHARLES E. CAL- LENDAR and JOHN V. Grr'rmonn, citizens of the United States, residing at Tifiin, in the county of Seneca and'State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Battery-Terminal Connections, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to battery terminalconne-ctions andit consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of theinventi'on is to provide a battery terminal connection of simple and durable structure adapted to securely hold the wiring and to make a tight, intimate and efi'ectual electric connection at the terminal and thereby preventing short circuit.
' -A further object of the invention is to provide terminal connection which may vbeeasily and quickly appl ed to or removed from the terminal and thereby saving labor and time in the application and detachment.
Also the speed-of detachment may be the means ofpreventing disastrous fire which might result from short circuit and in the event time is consumed 1n breaking the electric connection with the batteries. In the accompanying drawing' and I Figure 1 is a plan view ofthe battery terminal connection: g 1 Figure. 2 is a bottom plan view thereof- Figure 3 is a central longitudinal sectional view of the device.
The battery terminal connection cornprises a collarl having anopening 2 passing there'through. .When appliedtheopen ing 2 is adapted to receive the terminal of the battery (not shown).'
A" sleeve portion 3 is integrally joined with the collar 1 and the length of the sleeve i collar. The sleeve is adapted to receive and disposed transversely of the axisof the g openingfl in the collar. The sleeve is disposed atone side of the collar and is located at a point midway between the ends of the retain the wire (not shown) which connects the battery terminal electrically with the ignition or light systems, (also not shown).
The collar l-i's provided at one side of the opening 2 therein with a lateral extension 4 provided with a threaded bore 4 which receives a screw bolt 5. The axis of the bore is disposed parallel with the axis of the at 7; When the collar is slipped over the battery-terminal the flattened side'of the screw is in alinement with the wall surface of the opening in the collar. When the collar isin positionupon the terminal the screw boltis given a partial turn which causes the thread of the screw to bite into the terminal and secures the collar upon the terminal. -At the same time the thread of the screw enters the terminal and produces a good electrical contact. To remove the connection from the terminal the operation above described is reversed.
Having described the invention what is claimed isi Y A battery terminal connection comprising a collar provided at one side with a lateral extension having a threaded bore disposed parallel to and communicating with the opening in the collar and a screw threaded in said bore and engageable with the ter minal to bind thecollar thereon, said screw having a flattened side'portion disposed in alignment with the wall of the opening in the collar in engaging the latter with the terminal and a head disposed over said lateral extension. I
In testimony whereof we afiix our signatures.
' CHARLES- E. CALLENDAR.
