T. BERG TuYI-ma FOR BLAST PIPES FOR HIGH AND 0mm METALLURGICAL FURNACES iarezj;
Patented May 5, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THEODOR BERG, OF WERDOHL, GERMANY.
Application filcd April 9, 1924. Serial No. 705,396.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODOR Brno, a citizen of the Republic of Germany, residing at Werdohl, in VVest-phalia, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tuyere-s for Blast Pipes for High and Other Metallurgical Furnaces, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in tuyeres for blast-pipes for the use in metallurgical furnaces and the same is particularly applicable to the blast-pipes of high furnaces and its object is on the one hand to provide a tuyere which is capable of withstanding the chemical and thermal influences and of resisting the corrosive action of the contents of the furnace, and on the other hand the invention makes it possible to obtain the tuyere in a cheap and simple 0 manner by means of casting the same in a way that the tuyre contains the chamber necessary for the passage of the coolingwater.
The invention is characterized by the feature that the body of the tuyere containing the chamber for the cooling-water consists of a casting of aluminium-metal or of a suitable aluminium-alloy, the latter being provided, at the surface of the part which is subjected to the chemical and thermal 1m influences, with a. protecting cover of copper preferably produced by electroplating.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawin in which Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section through the tuyere. Fig. 2 is a view taken from the front side of the tnyere.
The aluminium-casting 1 contains the usual chamber 2 for the assage of the cool- 4 ing-water. The protectlng cover 3 of copper covers the nose of the tuyere up to the opening through which the blast-air escapes.
I am aware that prior to my invention tuyeres for blast-pipes made of copper or of aluminium have been used and I do not claim such a device broadly; but:
I claim: A water cooled tuyere for blast pipes for high and other metallurgical furnaces formed'of aluminium or aluminium alloy and having a protecting cover of copper covering the nose of the tuyere up to the outlet opening for the blast air.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification at Berlin, Germany, this 21st day of March, 1924.
1 THEODOR BERG.
