PATENT OFFICE. N
CLIFFORD IPI. SMITH, OF SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA.
STOVE.
Application filed June 30, 1923. Serial No. 648,762.
T all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, CLIFFORD H. SMITH,
a citizen of the United States, and resident of San J ose, in `the county of Santa Clara and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improve-ments in Stoves, of which the following is a speer lication. l
My invention relates particularly to a food receptacle heated by the exhaust from an internal combustion engine.
It is one object ot my invention to provide a device of the character indicated so, constructed as to permitthe passage of the exhaust gases from an engine therethrough.
It is another object of my invention to provide a device of the character indicated provided with means for controlling the passage of said exhaust through said receptaclc.
It is still another' object of my invention to `provide a means lor preventing injury to the receptacle if the pressure exerted by the exhaust rises unduly above normal.
In the drawing;- Figure 1` is a plan view of the device, `parts being broken away.
Figure 2 is a section on line 2-2 ot Figure'l.
Figure 3 y ure 1. y
Figure a is an enlarged sectional detail oit the exhaust control.
`Figure 5 is an enlarged detail ot the corner construction of the device.
Referring more particularly tothe drawing, 1 indicates the ruiming board of an automobile and 2 the exhaust pipe from the engine not shown.
At 3 I show a ease having inner and outer Walls l and 5 betvveen which is arranged aheat insulating medium 6. The case is provided vvith a `door at one end as at 7 hinged `at 8 and secured by catch 9 and mounted on running board 1 by brackets 9a. At 10 is shown a food receptacle securely fastened to the top case 3 by rivets 11, spaced from the sides,` rear end and bottom of the case to forni an encompassing space 12, and rigidly held in position by `braces 13 se is a section on line 3--8 of Figc... tuA
cured thereto and to case 3 as shown. The iront end of receptacle 10 is provided with a Harige 1st engaging the front of case 3 around the front openingtherein so that free access may be had to the receptacle 10 When door 7 is opened.
At 15 is shown an orifice in one side of case 3 near the bottom and one end thereof through which space 12 communicates With the atmosphere. Diagonally opposite to orifice 15 is another erilice 1G communicat ing with exhaust pipe 2 by means of a pipe 17. The opening between pipes 2 and 17 is normally closed by a gate valve 18 hinged as at 19 and provided with an arm 2O operated n any suitable manner as by a rod 21 whereby the valve may be opened and closed at vvill. The valve 18 is preferably mounted so that When in a normal position the exhaust is closed oit from pipe 17 but has a free passage through pipe 2, and When operated to lthe position indicated in dotted lines at 22 the exhaust is closed oli' in pipe 2 but has a tree passage through pipe 17.
I At 23 I show a door hinged at 24 in the side ot case 3 and under normal gas pressure held in a closed position by means of a spring 25 engaging the outer surface thereof and a bracket 26 mounted on the bottom ot running board 1. If the engine should back-tire While the exhaust is passing through pipe 17 the abnormal pressure will torce door 23 open and so permit the gas to escape easily instead of possibly blowing the caseB apart. y
Vhen in use beverages and i'oods to be served hot are placed in the receptacle 10, the door 7 closed and the valve 18 opened to position 22 so that the exhaust from the running engine Will be passed through pipe 17 and around receptacle 1() tilling space 12 and finally discharging at 15. In this manner beverages and foods may be subjected to any desired degree of heat Within the range of the exhaust gases by controlling its. flow into pipe 17, and for any desired length of time. f
It is to be understood of course, that While lf have herein shown and described but one specie embodiment etl my invention7 changes in forni, construction and lnethod of operation may loe n'rade within the scope of the appended elailn.
In combination with a case, a receptacle arranged therein and closed ol'l' therefrom and spacedy a distance therefroiin. a door Connnon to Said e-aseand reeeptacle, a door mounted on said Case, resilient ineansflfor.
